Divorced the Cheat Married the Fleet (Camilla and Lance) novel Chapter 280

Davina seemed to only just catch on to what was going on. The tears stopped, and she scrambled to apologize. “I’m sorry, Barnard. I was just scared of Dad. I wanted to get on his good side fast, that’s all.

“Does it still hurt? Let me rub it for you. When you were little, every time you got a bruise or a bump, you always wanted me to take a look and rub it better for you. Can I check it?”

She crouched down in front of Barnard, her hands gentle, her voice going back to the soft, caring tone he remembered so well. The tension in Barnard’s face eased a little.

Then Barnard said, “Davina, let me use your phone.”

For someone who’d been so obedient a second ago, Davina didn’t say a word this time.

Barnard’s eyes cooled, but he didn’t push her. Instead, something calculating flickered behind his calm. There was no way Davina could outplay him. Even if she refused, he had plenty of ways to get what he wanted.

He glanced down at his injury again, something dark glinting in his eyes. Camilla, Lance—he almost wanted to laugh. Let’s see how Lance reacts when he learns the truth about everything.

Word of Barnard being locked up reached Camilla not long after.

Laura called when she transferred the money over. Her voice sounded worn out. “Camilla, Barnard’s father has already locked him up and taken away his phone. You don’t have to worry about him bothering you again. About that agreement…”

“If you really can keep your son in line, Mrs. Carter, that agreement is just a useless piece of paper to me. There’s no need to keep bringing it up.” Camilla cut her off and hung up without waiting for a reply.

When she checked her account and saw the new deposit—over ten million—she couldn’t help but smile. She knew The Carter Family’s situation inside out, knew how hard they’d had to scrape just to put together that kind of money. For them, it was a small miracle.

From now on, Calvin wouldn’t dare let Barnard mess with her again. It was the perfect chance to dig into the past and finally clear everything up. As long as she could handle whatever hidden threats might come up, she wouldn’t need to worry about Barnard’s return.

The move was almost done—most of their stuff was unpacked, and now it was just about sorting and organizing. The villa had a few extra rooms, and somehow, both Lance and Jasper ended up choosing rooms on either side of Camilla’s, as if they’d planned it but never said a word to each other.

Jasper’s room was on the left, Lance’s on the right.

At the moment, both of them were busy bossing servants around, moving boxes and arguing over little things, acting like they didn’t even notice Camilla come in.
