Divorced the Cheat Married the Fleet (Camilla and Lance) novel Chapter 308

As the wife of one of the city’s most powerful families, Tessa’s behavior really wasn’t any different from what the Carters would do.

Elise said, “What else is there to say? Lance and Tessa’s friend’s daughter practically grew up together. They’ve always been close, and the Charles family wants them to end up together. Camilla, I know you’d never come between a couple. Maybe you and Lance care about each other right now, but he’s meant to be with that girl. This isn’t going anywhere, so why don’t we just stop before anyone gets really hurt?”

Camilla pressed her lips together. She couldn’t think of anything to say.

So the Charles family really wanted Lance to marry Sarah. So Sarah wasn’t just some “little sister” to him. Their relationship… What did that make her and Lance now?

Elise spoke again, her voice tight. “Camilla, are you even listening to me? Give me a straight answer. I don’t want you stirring up more drama in your life. Can’t we just live quietly for once?”

Camilla glanced down at her mother, anxious and pale. Her own thoughts were tangled and frantic. She still couldn’t come up with an answer. Elise went on, “Promise me you’ll break up with him. There’s nothing for you in a relationship that ends with him marrying another woman. Let’s just get out now before things get worse, okay?”

As Elise talked, she pushed herself upright and reached toward Camilla’s phone, ready to take matters into her own hands and cut things off with Lance.

Camilla grabbed her mother’s hand, stopping her. Little by little, through all the confusion, she felt herself steady. Her voice was steady, too, when she spoke. “Mom, I believe in Lance. I’ll ask him about all of this, and I’ll decide what to do after I hear what he has to say.”

Elise’s voice rose, sharp and panicked. “Camilla, why are you so stubborn lately? Do you want to break my heart? Jasper is still a kid. If you can’t figure out your own life, do you really want Jasper to be dragged through all that gossip again? People like us don’t belong in a world of the rich and powerful. Please, just listen to your mother for once. Break up with him. Don’t make things more complicated.”

She looked at Camilla with a heavy expression, as if she didn’t even recognize her own daughter anymore.

Why was Camilla being so hard-headed? She had always listened before. After all she’d been through, why was she so determined to get hurt again?

Camilla shook her head, her eyes gentle but full of resolve. “Mom, Lance is really good to me. I can’t just break up with him because of a few rumors, without even talking to him. If we really have to break up, I’ll ask him myself if he plans to marry Sarah. I know what I’m doing. You don’t need to worry. You just need to focus on getting better. It’s getting late, and Jasper’s still waiting at home. I should go.”
