“Tessa, are you really that clueless, or are you just trying to cover for someone? Let me guess, was Sarah the one who went with you to your appointment today? And was it her idea to bring this guy back here? Someone call Sarah, tell her to get herself over here. I want to see what else she’s planning.”

Lance just kept ignoring Tessa, lost in his own analysis. To him, Wallace’s shouting and Tessa’s accusations didn’t matter at all. Not even the truth about Jasper’s real father seemed to phase him.

“Why are you dragging Sarah into this? We’re talking about you. Jasper’s father literally came to our house and you’re still forcing him to stay with you. Lance, how long are you going to keep up this ridiculous act?” Tessa shot back.

“Jasper only needs one dad, and that’s me. It doesn’t matter who comes looking. As for Sarah, she set up my woman and my kid. Of course, I want answers today. Tessa, I’ve been wanting to take Camilla away from all of this for so long, but you were the one who begged us to stay. Now’s the perfect time to finally settle everything.”

They were at a total standoff. Tessa was desperate for Lance to see he wasn’t Jasper’s biological father, but Lance only cared about standing up for Camilla.

Watching how stubborn he was, Tessa started to panic a little. The way he talked made her realize Sarah might actually be involved in all this. Lance never got along with Sarah, and he’d already kicked her out of the Charles family once. What was he planning for her this time?

Tessa started feeling guilty as she mumbled, “Sarah isn’t even part of the Charles family anymore. Why are you calling her back now? Lance, if you’re going to be so unreasonable, then fine, I’m done. Pretend I never said a word. Do whatever you want.”

Lance couldn’t help but laugh out loud. This was just too much. His own mother, always picking at him, was now willing to go back on everything she ever said just to stick up for Sarah.

He looked from Wallace to Tessa. “Oh, I get to do whatever I want? Funny, you didn’t say that when you were going after Camilla. You’re the ones who started this mess, and now you want it all to just disappear. How does that make any sense? If you actually care about Sarah, call her and have her come here. Let’s clear the air right now. Otherwise, if I have to look for her myself, I won’t be able to control what happens next.”

“Do you have to press so hard? It’s New Year’s Day, a time to be happy. Why ruin it for everyone? Camilla, can’t you be a little more understanding and talk Lance down?” Tessa changed the subject, hoping Camilla would help her out.
