Divorced the Cheat Married the Fleet (Camilla and Lance) novel Chapter 402

Seeing Tessa being completely unreasonable, Darwin lost all patience and explicitly showed her the door.

Tessa took in Darwin's frigid expression. Her gaze darted away, a sudden wave of apprehension washing over her.

She cast another sidelong glance at Camilla, a sliver of suspicion taking root in her mind.

From what she remembered, Darwin had never cared for Camilla, nor did he like her illegitimate child. So why was he acting like a completely different person now, defending her at every turn?

Just what kind of tricks did this woman have up her sleeve? Not only had she managed to rein in her rebellious son, but now she had completely conquered Darwin as well.

Although she was still seething with dissatisfaction, Tessa didn't dare argue with Darwin any further and reluctantly left Laguna Shores.

Only then did Darwin's expression soften as he looked at Camilla. "You're back. Tessa chose a terrible time to drop by. Your mother seemed quite shaken up by the noise. Lance is in there comforting her right now, you should go check on them."

Elise was Camilla's biggest concern right now. She gave Darwin a hasty greeting and hurried toward her mother's room.

Lance and Jasper were both inside. Elise had her head bowed, her expression unreadable, but the heavy atmosphere in the room made it clear she was upset.

Jasper was holding up a small picture book, trying to tell jokes to make his grandmother smile.

Hearing Camilla walk in, Jasper lowered the book and furrowed his brow. "Mommy, a bad lady scared Grandma. Grandma is sad, and I don't know what to do."

"Why don't you and Daddy step outside for a bit? Let Mommy take care of Grandma," Camilla said softly.

Jasper nodded. Holding Lance's hand, he kept looking back anxiously as they walked out the door.

As they brushed past each other, Lance murmured something low in Camilla's ear, his heavy gaze landing on the corners of her eyes.

She had clearly been crying; the edges of her eyes were still rimmed with red.

Pushing down his urge to ask what had happened, Lance carried Jasper out and gently closed the bedroom door behind them.

Seeing Elise's distressed state, Camilla grew even more certain that she couldn't tell her the truth about her father just yet. "It's nothing major," she lied smoothly. "I just want to explore expanding the business.

"I should be back before the holidays. I'll leave Jasper in your care while I'm gone. If you don't trust Lance, keep a close eye on how he handles him."

Camilla had phrased it that way on purpose.

She had seen clearly how much Lance adored Jasper, and she fully believed he would win her mother over. Giving Elise this task was just a way to keep her occupied so she wouldn't sit around overthinking.

Though Elise was reluctant to see her go, she didn't try to stop her.

When Camilla finally stepped out of the room, she found Lance leaning against the wall in the hallway, his eyes brimming with deep concern.

He was always so sharp. He could easily detect even the slightest shift in her mood.

Camilla had no intention of hiding anything from him. She immediately recounted everything that had happened that day. "I have to go to Valdoria. Please, take good care of my mom and Jasper for me."
