Divorced the Cheat Married the Fleet (Camilla and Lance) novel Chapter 408

During the years he was married to Camilla, she had catered to his every need. If he so much as caught a cold, she hovered over him, ensuring his absolute comfort without a single complaint.

Meanwhile, Davina, a woman who literally used to be a nanny, couldn't do a damn thing right.

Just like old times, Camilla firmly rejected his request to meet, but she deliberately let it slip that the summit had gone terribly and that she was heading to a popular local lounge for a drink.

After hanging up, Camilla changed her outfit and headed straight to the lounge she had mentioned.

She had barely ordered her first drink when Barnard arrived. A young, unfamiliar girl was pushing his wheelchair—likely a local caregiver he had hired.

When Camilla saw him, she let just the right amount of surprise show on her face.

The caregiver parked Barnard by her table as instructed, then retreated outside to wait.

Camilla furrowed her brow, her eyes narrowing with perfectly calibrated annoyance. "What are you doing here?"

"I just wanted to talk," Barnard said smoothly. "And maybe help you solve some of your problems."

He didn't sound like his old, arrogant self when he pitched his usefulness. Instead, his dark, brooding eyes roamed over her figure.

It was as if he were masking an unreadable, calculating intent.

Or perhaps a lingering trace of insecurity.

Camilla rubbed her temples wearily, a sardonic gleam in her eyes. "Stop messing around, Barnard. You fled to Valdoria like a stray dog with its tail tucked between its legs.

If I can't even find an in here, what kind of connections could you possibly have?"

Despite her ruthless insult, Barnard didn't snap. Instead, a bizarre, sinister smirk crept onto his face. His eyes glinted with an eerie light that would have made anyone else's skin crawl.

"You were at the summit today," he pointed out. "You must have seen that my dad has some pretty solid connections here. I could easily arrange an introduction."

Camilla frowned, staring at him in heightened disbelief. "Since when are you that generous?"

"I've told you countless times—divorcing you was never my choice. I still care about you.

You resent me, and you happen to be in a tight spot. Using this as an opportunity to reconnect... isn't that just basic strategy?" he countered.

He laid his pathetic, self-serving motives bare right in front of her, grinning as if he were a master tactician holding all the cards.
