In his eyes, Camilla would always be the most important person.
She was his anchor. He would never do anything to make her unhappy.
Camilla gently stroked Jasper's head. As he buried himself in her embrace, her racing heart finally began to settle.
"It's okay, Jasper," she said softly. "It was Mom's fault this time. I promise I'll always tell you where I'm going from now on. I won't make you worry ever again, deal?"
Jasper nodded slightly. He gripped her fingers tight, his eyes darting toward Lance for a split second, but he didn't say a word.
After Camilla sat down, Jeniffer greeted her politely.
However, since they weren't particularly close, there wasn't much conversation between them.
With Jasper right there, Carol kept her burning questions to herself. The meal was remarkably quiet.
Camilla felt incredibly guilty toward Carol. On New Year's Eve, her drama had forced Carol to ditch the holiday and wait at the hospital.
And today, because she had been tricked, Carol had flown all the way to Valdoria.
Before Camilla even had the chance to thank her properly, Carol got a phone call and had to rush off.
As dinner wrapped up, Lance took Jasper to the restroom, leaving only Camilla and Jeniffer in the private room.
Camilla thought the silence would stretch on, but Jeniffer suddenly spoke up. "Camilla, are you still mad at Lance?
I don't know what happened between you two, but I feel like if I don't speak up for him, he never will.
Don't let Lance's nonchalant attitude fool you. He notices everything. If there's something he wants to keep buried, he'll take it to his grave.
I'm not trying to make excuses for him; I just think it'd be a tragedy if you guys missed out on each other over some misunderstanding. After all, he's been in love with you for years.
When my uncle sent him off to the military camp, he was the youngest one there, but he always took the most dangerous missions. He even requested a transfer out of my dad's unit just to stop my dad from interfering.
That year you started college? That was the very first time he actually earned a chance to come home and visit in years. Honestly, he fought tooth and nail for that leave.
He signed up for a peacekeeping mission abroad behind our backs just so he could get a single day off before deploying. And he spent that day going to see you.
