Camilla's grip tightened around her phone, but she made her choice without a second of hesitation.
Pamela's hostility toward Dahlia was far too dangerous. There was no way Dahlia could withstand that kind of malice on her own, and Camilla refused to leave her friend to face the wolves.
Jeniffer had overheard enough of the call to get the gist. Without asking unnecessary questions, she already knew what Camilla was going to do. She hooked her arm through Camilla's. "Where are we going? I'll be your bodyguard."
Camilla didn't turn down the offer; she immediately gave her the address of the Adams estate.
With Jeniffer behind the wheel, Camilla stubbornly spent the drive trying to contact her former suppliers again.
The results were the same. Every single one of them was dodging her, sending her calls straight to voicemail.
Knowing it was pointless to keep trying, Camilla tossed her phone onto the seat in frustration.
Glancing at Camilla's tense expression through the rearview mirror, Jeniffer spoke up. "I feel like all of this is way too bizarre. Lance just left for Silvania, and that woman on the phone was trying to bait you into going there too. Do you think it's connected?
The timing, the location... it can't be a coincidence."
Jeniffer's observation made Camilla's expression darken further.
Sarah and Pamela moved in the same social circles. Even though the Gates family wasn't in the same league as the Charles family, it was entirely possible the two women had crossed paths privately.
Not to mention, Sarah had always loved putting on a humble act; she had purposefully chosen Shirley—a girl from an ordinary background—as her best friend.
Considering that, forming an alliance with Pamela wasn't out of the question.
"We'll find out if it's a coincidence soon enough," Camilla said.
She couldn't afford to panic while Dahlia's situation was still up in the air, but she still felt like an invisible, inescapable net was closing in around her.
The tangled threads of the conspiracy choked her thoughts, making it impossible to see the big picture.
Meanwhile, at the Adams estate, Dahlia had indeed returned with Magee.
Mr. Adams had personally called her the night before, claiming he wanted to discuss her engagement to Magee.
Magee had been treating Dahlia wonderfully lately, and she had even had pleasant video calls with his mother.
Her hands balled into fists by her sides, but she refused to break eye contact with Mrs. Adams.
For years, whenever she faced Pamela, she had always been the underdog, the one beaten into submission.
Pamela had always stood over her like a smug victor, trampling all over her dignity.
In the past, Dahlia would have just swallowed the abuse. But this time, she was done playing the victim. She refused to let Pamela walk all over her anymore.
Getting together with Magee was a huge leap of faith she had finally convinced herself to take. If Pamela wanted a fight, she was going to lay everything out on the table.
Even if Magee decided to abandon her this time, at least she wouldn't go down looking like a pathetic mess in front of her rival.
Dahlia had already accepted the worst-case scenario. She had nothing left to lose and nothing to fear, and she absolutely refused to suffer this humiliation in silence.
In Mrs. Adams' eyes, Dahlia had always been overly cautious, even a bit submissive.
Confronted with such blazing defiance, Mrs. Adams' face twisted in outrage. "Is that how you speak to me?" she scoffed. "You have absolutely no class."
