Having worked alongside Darwin for nearly thirty years, Attorney Vance had never questioned any of his decisions.
But this time, he couldn't comprehend it. What kind of sheer audacity did it take for Darwin to make such a call?
This was no different from an ancient emperor bypassing his sons and grandsons to pass the throne to a granddaughter-in-law.
Unable to hold back any longer, Attorney Vance asked, "Mr. Charles, do you truly intend to hand everything over to Ms. White? Do you need me to make some minor adjustments to the agreement?"
He asked vaguely, but what he really meant was whether Darwin wanted to insert hidden clauses to control Camilla.
After all, this agreement was originally drafted out of Tessa's guilt as a pure compensation for Lance, so it naturally favored him entirely. Now that the assets were going to Camilla, it would be normal to tweak the terms.
Darwin's expression darkened. "What adjustments? I said those things in front of you so you would clearly understand who will be running The Charles Group from now on. Victor, being meticulous is a good trait, but from now on, stop taking matters into your own hands. If I need you to change something, I'll tell you."
Attorney Vance nodded repeatedly, though the shock in his heart hadn't lessened a bit. How could he not understand Darwin's words?
The old man was genuinely handing the reins of The Charles Group over to Camilla.
He couldn't even begin to imagine the uproar this news would cause when it reached the corporate headquarters.
The landscape of The Charles Group was about to experience a seismic shift.
Not daring to delay, Attorney Vance quickly replied, "You are right to correct me. I overstepped."
Darwin waved his hand gently. "Never mind. If there's nothing else, both of you step out. I want some time alone."
When Camilla came downstairs, Lance was pushing Jasper on the swing in the yard.
Oscar and Tessa had already left, making the massive estate feel a bit empty.
Lance immediately noticed Camilla's solemn expression. He handed Jasper over to a nearby maid and strode toward her. "Why the heavy face? Did Grandpa say something? Is he putting pressure on you?"
Camilla had come out specifically to talk to him about this, so she didn't hide anything. She managed a slight smile. "You're a good guesser, Lance. Grandpa said he wants me to take over the company. He also wants your parents' shares transferred to my name."
"I belong to you, so naturally everything I own belongs to you too. Alright, Camilla, stop overthinking. It's settled. I'm taking you to Grandpa to sign those papers."
He truly had no desire to interact with his parents, nor did he want their assets. But since Darwin was already handing the company to Camilla, that meant Oscar and Tessa would essentially be working for her from now on. Taking their shares was just a bonus.
It took less than half an hour for them to return to the study. The signed equity agreements were soon sitting on Darwin's desk.
Hearing the door open, Darwin looked up. He exchanged a knowing glance with Lance before turning to Camilla. "Have you discussed it?"
"What's there to discuss? It's rare for you to make such a brilliant decision, old man. You should be patting yourself on the back. Now hurry up and give Camilla a pen," Lance said casually as he sat down across from Darwin.
Despite his nonchalant tone, Lance meticulously scanned every document on the desk, making sure there were no hidden loopholes before sliding them over to Camilla.
Darwin watched him in silence, feeling a slight twinge in his heart. His grandson was guarding against everyone in the family, not even fully trusting him.
But thankfully, Darwin had been sharp enough to figure out that tying Camilla to the company was the best way to keep Lance grounded.
