Divorced the Cheat Married the Fleet (Camilla and Lance) novel Chapter 531

Lance didn't hesitate to answer the call. Camilla knew he must have been flooded with missed calls too.

On the other end of the line, Tessa let out a heavy sigh of relief. "Lance, you finally picked up. Are you with Camilla right now? Did your flight land?"

"Did something happen? Is it my mom?" Camilla guessed instantly, cutting straight to the chase.

A brief silence hung on the line before Tessa answered. "Yes, but don't panic. Her condition has stabilized for now. Just head straight to the hospital. Dane is already on his way to the airport to pick you up."

Camilla sprinted out of the terminal and spotted the family car waiting. The moment she got inside, she eagerly turned to the butler. "Dane, what exactly happened today? What's wrong with my mom?"

"It's about your father, Camilla," Dane explained gently. "Someone leaked Tanner's condition to Elise. When she heard the news, she suffered a complete emotional breakdown. She slipped past her nurses and ran out of the hospital."

"Fortunately, she didn't make it far before the medical staff found her, and she has already been escorted back to her room. However, she's utterly devastated. She won't stop crying. The family is all there, and Carol went over as well, but nobody can console her."

Camilla knew her father's condition couldn't be kept a secret forever, but she hadn't expected the truth to be exposed this quickly. A chilling wave of dread washed over her palms. She had no idea how to face her mother's questions.

Her mother's breakdown tore at her heart, yet she was caught in an impossible position—torn between her father's wishes and her mother's right to know.

Sensing her anxiety, Lance reached over and gripped her hand tightly. "I'm right here, Camilla. I'll help you explain everything to Elise. Don't be too anxious. Perhaps this isn't entirely a bad thing. It's time for her to reunite with Tanner."

A rush of warmth spread through Camilla at his comforting words, and she gave a small nod. He was right. Now that the secret was out, she no longer had to juggle lies on both ends. This was the perfect opportunity to bring Tanner back to Cabinda.

Still... she had meticulously arranged everything. The Charles family had explicitly warned everyone who had access to Elise to keep their mouths shut. No one would have dared to reveal Tanner's condition unless they had an ulterior motive. Whoever had deliberately targeted her mother would pay dearly.

The car soon arrived at the hospital. Camilla practically ran out of the elevator. The first person she saw pacing anxiously in the corridor was Tessa.

"He was more anxious than anyone," Carol continued softly. "He was so desperate to see you that he tried to refuse his foundational treatments and skip straight to the prosthetics. Camilla has had it rough, too. She had to respect his wishes while worrying about his health. If she hadn't forcefully delayed the procedure, he would have suffered severe long-term complications just to rush the prosthetics."

Carol gently explained the immense pressure Camilla had been under.

Elise's coughing gradually subsided, though her eyes remained locked on Camilla with lingering anger. She knew Carol was telling the truth. She understood it perfectly well.

But she was still furious—furious that Camilla had lied to her, and furious that Camilla hadn't understood her true feelings.

"Mom, I..."

"Camilla, do you think I'm that useless?" Elise choked out. "Yes, your father's condition is hard to accept. Yes, it hurts. But no matter what, he is still alive."
