Divorced the Cheat Married the Fleet (Camilla and Lance) novel Chapter 537

Ines completely lost her mind at Davina's arrogant lack of remorse. She threw herself at Davina, completely feral, until Officer Newell finally ordered his men to pull them apart. "Enough! This is a police precinct, not a street brawl! Keep it together!"

Davina's accomplices swiftly confessed to everything, detailing how Davina had blackmailed and bribed them into executing the murder. The homicide case would require a deep investigation, but the immediate priority was processing the kidnapping.

Camilla and the others were brought into the interrogation rooms to give their statements. Because Jasper and Elaine were minors, Camilla and Bonnie sat beside them throughout the process.

Elaine was still in a state of shock, crying silently. Jasper, on the other hand, was remarkably composed. Though his small face was pale, he sat up perfectly straight.

Camilla leaned down. "Jasper, tell the nice officers exactly how you ended up leaving with Daisy today, and everything they did to you, okay?"

Jasper nodded, delivering a surprisingly articulate account. "Elaine and I were waiting outside for Bonnie. Suddenly, Daisy walked up to us. She said my mom and her mom were talking nearby, and that Barnard was there too. She told me my mom wanted me to come over."

His voice wavered slightly. "I'm sorry, Mom. I'm sorry, Bonnie. This is my fault. I was terrified that Barnard was going to hurt my mom, so I believed her. I... I dragged Elaine into danger."

Daisy had always been Davina's little accomplice for dirty work. She was highly skilled at manipulation. Since Jasper recognized her and she used Camilla as bait, it was completely natural for him to fall into the trap.

Jasper lowered his head, casting a guilt-ridden glance at Elaine. Suddenly, he looked up at Bonnie with fierce determination. "Bonnie, I... I promise I will be more careful from now on. I will always protect Elaine. Please don't ban her from playing with me."

Hearing his desperate plea, Elaine stopped crying. She looked at Jasper's resolute face, then tugged on her mother's sleeve. "Mom, I still want to play with Jasper. I don't blame him."

Seeing the unbreakable bond between the children, Bonnie felt the lingering terror in her chest ease into a gentle warmth. She smiled softly and patted Jasper's shoulder. "It's okay, sweetie. I know how well you take care of Elaine. Don't worry, I would never stop you two from being friends."

Jasper let out a massive sigh of relief. "I'll always protect her. I swear."

Daisy's manic rage looked incredibly pathetic against Jasper's cold composure. Desperate to assert dominance, she demanded again, "Why?! Jasper, I did everything to make you like me! Why won't you be my friend?!"

"First of all," Jasper replied smoothly, "My name is not Jasper Carter. I am a Charles. Second, Elaine isn't an ugly freak. She's my friend, and to me, she is far more beautiful than you will ever be. If you insult her again, I won't be so polite. And third... your crying is really fake and incredibly annoying."

His voice was ice-cold, offering absolutely no mercy.

Daisy trembled with rage, completely humiliated. Jasper turned back to Camilla and took her hand. "Let's go, Mom."

Elaine had heard every word perfectly. She had never seen Jasper act so fiercely, but instead of feeling scared, an overwhelming wave of warmth flooded her heart. Her facial scars had healed beautifully, leaving only faint marks behind her ears. She rarely spoke of it, but she always felt insecure, carefully letting her hair down to hide the flaws.
