Divorced the Cheat Married the Fleet (Camilla and Lance) novel Chapter 6

She always tried to keep her head down in front of Camilla, acting polite and careful, but Camilla just couldn't warm up to her.

Watching Davina hovering anxiously, Camilla couldn't help but ask, “Why didn't you tell me about Daisy's dust allergy sooner? I could've had the staff look out for it, and maybe this would never have happened.”

It was strange, honestly. The staff at Saddlebrook Estates cleaned everything perfectly, and Daisy had been living here for a while without any issues.

Davina answered, “I guess it was just bad luck this time. If this hadn't happened, I wouldn't even know Daisy was allergic. Camilla, you know, kids from families like mine aren't exactly pampered. I never really paid attention to these things.”

Realizing Davina truly hadn’t known, Camilla let the topic drop.

To celebrate Daisy coming home from the hospital, Barnard had his assistant send over a mountain of little girl’s clothes and bags. Camilla only glanced at it, but could tell the total cost easily hit six figures.

Barnard wanted to make up for the kindness Davina had shown him back when they were kids by pouring the best things onto Daisy. If he needed to repay a debt, Camilla didn’t want to get in the way.

But Jasper, seeing all those presents for Daisy, grabbed his dad’s sleeve, almost bursting with excitement. “Dad, now that Daisy’s home, can we go to the amusement park?”

Barnard had promised, and ever since, Jasper just couldn’t stop thinking about it. Every weekend, other kids’ parents would take them out to all sorts of fun places and take tons of pretty photos together. His dad, though, had never taken him anywhere like that. It was his mom, always his mom.

Daisy’s tears finally spilled over, rolling down her cheeks. Barnard glanced at Camilla, frowned, but didn’t try to comfort Daisy. It was Davina who stepped in, scolding her. “Daisy, stop it. Don’t make a fuss. You’ll upset Camilla and Jasper.”

Davina had to practically drag Daisy upstairs, her sobs faintly echoing back down the hallway.

Barnard reached for his glasses, nudging them up the bridge of his nose. “Let’s take tomorrow morning off. We’ll go to the amusement park in the afternoon.”

That was enough assurance for Camilla, and she could finally relax. She headed upstairs to pack up everything Jasper would need for his big day tomorrow.
