Chapter 117

Victoria’s POV

The bass inside the VIP lounge was so loud I could feel it rattling right through the leather booth and into the soles of my

shoes.

Neon blue and purple lights flashed across the table, cutting through the dark space and hitting the buckets of champagne chilling on ice.

Around the long glass table, the entire group was practically in hysterics, their phones out as they leaned across the cushions to shove a particular screen into Elijah’s face.

“I mean, look at the caption, Eli!” Jace yelled over the music, practically vibrating with excitement. “The Diamond King has, officially melted. They’ve got you pinned, man. You’re trending.”

Jace flipped the screen so we could watch the clip.

My face flared hot, and I immediately pulled my glass of cranberry juice closer, wishing I could just shrink back into the corner of the booth.

My gut is never wrong about this stuff. Somewhere deep down, I knew someone had been lurking in the library stacks that night, and they’d seen the whole moment between Elijah and me.

Whoever filmed it had been standing far off, so there was absolutely no audio, and the heavy downpour outside blurred the glass, but the visuals were crystal clear.

The clip caught the exact moment we stepped out of my broken car. It showed Elijah standing under the dark sky, completely soaked, before dropping to his knees right there in the mud to look up at me.

Even without a single word of our confession playing, his raw posture said everything.

The video was currently everywhere. It wasn’t just the local campus blogs anymore-even massive, verified entertainment pages had picked it up.

Let’s not even talk about what people were saying. The comment sections were completely unhinged.

Half the internet was calling him a king, while the other half was declaring me the luckiest girl alive for somehow managing to crack open the untouchable Elijah Carter.

I kept waiting for annoyance to cross his face. I expected him to be embarrassed, or at least be annoyed that our private business was being chewed up by the entire world for entertainment.

Instead, Elijah casually reached out, his heavy arm sliding around my waist to pull me firmly against his side.

His hand settled at my waist, his thumb brushing against the fabric of my dress as he kept me close in front of everyone.

He leaned down, his lips brushing against my temple as he spoke into my ear, his voice slicing cleanly through the surrounding noise.

“Don’t be shy, Victoria. Just soak it in.”

I looked up at him, blinking in surprise. “You’re really not bothered by this?”

“Bothered?” A lazy grin broke across his handsome face. “They’re calling me a king in the comments, and everyone knows you’re mine. Why would I be bothered?”

I leaned my head against his shoulder, realizing that this entire ordeal hadn’t bruised his ego at all-it had completely

I had expected him to want to hide, but Elijah Carter just wasn’t built for shame. Instead, this video was just another addition to his perfect track record.

He was ridiculously handsome, he was projected to graduate at the absolute top of the criminology department, and he was already being scouted by premium league baseball teams, including the New York Yankees.

Now, this viral clip was showing everyone a completely different side of him. It stripped away the mean, untouchable bad- boy stereotype people had lazily slapped on him since freshman year, proving he actually had a heart.

He was a bad boy, sure, but he wasn’t the evil person everyone assumed he was.

“Hey, Carter, leave some air for the girl,” Miles called out from across the table, pouring another round of tequila shots.

He watched us with a grin before turning smoothly to Adele, who was sitting right beside him, nursing a cocktail.

Miles cleared his throat, adjusting an imaginary collar as he leaned in close to her.

“Will you be my Victoria? I’ll be your Elijah.”

Adele didn’t even blink. Without a moment’s hesitation, she threw her head back, dramatically slapping the back of her hand against her forehead in a perfect, flawless imitation of an old-school Disney princess facing a tragic dilemma.

“Oh, yes! Yes, a thousand times yes!” she wailed dramatically, letting her shoulders slump as she collapsed sideways against the leather cushions.

The entire table burst into a collective roar of laughter.

“It is done!” Leo shouted back, raising his glass to the ceiling. “The arrangement is sealed!”

My face was practically on fire by this point, a breathless laugh bubbling from my lips as I hid my face against Elijah’s chest.

He just chuckled, the deep rumble of his voice moving against my cheek as his grip around my waist tightened.

“Alright, enough yapping.” Miles said, sliding the tray of salt-rimmed shot glasses into the center of the table. “To the end of college, and to the King and his Queen. Down them, boys.”

We all grabbed a glass, clinked them together, and swallowed the burning liquid in one go.

Almost immediately, everyone went right back to shouting over each other, arguing about where we were going to get food later.

Elijah completely tuned them out. His fingers moved up to my hip, tracing slow lines against my skin as his eyes dropped straight to my mouth.

The whole mood in the booth shifted instantly, the loud, playful energy around us just bleeding away until it felt hard to 1 breathe.

“Come on,” he murmured, his voice hitting that deep note that always makes my stomach flutter. “Dance with me.”

Before I could even give a coherent answer, he was on his feet, pulling me up by my hand and guiding me out of the private lounge toward the crowded floor below.

The music down here was loud and heavy, a deep, grinding beat that you could feel right in your chest.

The lights were darker, casting long shadows across moving bodies. The moment we found a small pocket of space near the edge of the floor, Elijah stepped right into me, his front flushing against mine.

His hands slid down to wrap around the swell of my hips, pulling me into a slow, sultry sway that completely ignored the fast pace of the song playing.

I wrapped my arms around his neck, my fingers locking into the hair at the nape of his neck as he guided my body against

his.

Every shift of his thighs, every heavy press of his chest against my breasts felt intentional, a silent promise of what was coming later.

He leaned down, his mouth tracing a line from my jaw down to the sensitive skin of my neck, inhaling deeply.

“You’re being entirely too loud with your eyes tonight, baby girl,” he growled against my ear, his teeth grazing my earlobe.

“I’m not doing anything,” I breathed, my breath hitching as his hands slid down to press the small of my back closer to his crotch.

“You are,” he insisted, his breath hot against my neck. He pulled away just enough to look down at me, his eyes dark his pupils completely blown out.

“And when my control officially hits its limit, we are leaving.”

“Then let it snap,” I murmured.

I took a slow step backward, slipping out from under his hands to put a reasonable distance between us.

Boldness took over me, and I started dancing alone in the space I’d made.

My eyes never left his as I moved. I kept my pace slow, making every single movement entirely for him.

His eyes grew impossibly darker, the skin around his jaw tightening as a muscle twitched in his cheek.

I flashed him a teasing smile, lifted my hand to curl my fingers, signaling for him to come get me.

But Elijah didn’t move an inch. He just stood there, his chest rising and falling heavily as he watched me dance by myself, deliberately letting the tension build up between us.

He was waiting, just letting it simmer so he’d have every reason to be completely ruthless later.

But my own patience ran out first. Shifting closer again, I caught his hands and guided them straight up to my chest, letting him heavily grab and squeeze my breasts right through my dress.

The shy, self-conscious version of me was completely dead. I was running wild on the adrenaline of the moment, not caring about the crowded floor or who might be looking at us.

Before he could even pull me against him, a random drunk guy stumbled into our space, leaning toward me with a sloppy grin.

He didn’t get a chance to utter a word. Elijah cut in instantly, stepping directly between us and shoving the guy back with a hard arm that sent him stumbling straight into the crowd.

He turned back to me, his eyes dark and razor-sharp.

“Let’s go.”

He threaded his fingers through mine and dragged me straight through the crowd, past the VIP lounge, and out into the cool night air where his car was waiting with the valet.
