Chapter 118

Victoria’s POV

The entire center of the sprawling living room had been completely taken over. Resting right in the middle of the floor was a massive, impossibly tall bouquet of deep crimson roses and white lilies.

It was absurdly big-nearly the size of the Rockefeller Christmas tree.

Surrounding the base of the arrangement were dozens of glossy boutique shopping bags, elegant designer boxes tied withy silk ribbons, and a giant plush teddy bear.

My mind spun right back to early this morning. When Adele and I were driving to campus for our final paper, we’d driven past a huge delivery truck carrying that exact towering monstrosity of a bouquet.

Adele had immediately slowed the car down, both of us pressing our faces to the glass to gawk at it.

We completely hyped it up, joking about how insane it was.

Even the girls in the car next to us had rolled down their windows, staring in absolute awe. One of them had called out, ‘Man, whoever she is, she must be loved crazy!’ and Adele and I had both laughed, totally agreeing.

We spent the rest of the drive wondering what kind of hopeless romantic would pull a stunt that massive.

I had absolutely no idea the girl we were all talking about was me.

I turned to look at him, my throat completely locked up as I tried to find words.

“Elijah… what is all this?”

“Congratulations for finishing your exams,” he said softly, leaning his shoulder against the doorframe, his hands tucked into his pockets as he watched me with a quiet, satisfied smile.

“Oh my goodness, Elijah,” I choked out, a breathless laugh escaping me as I walked toward the middle of the room, my heels clicking against the floorboards.

I touched the edge of one of the heavy silver ribbons on a box.

“This is… it’s incredible. It’s too much. You really didn’t have to go through all this trouble.”

Elijah raised a single eyebrow, a playful glint returning to his eyes.

“Really? I didn’t have to?”

I laughed a little, looking down at my shoes. “I’m mostly just saying that to be polite. You know, so I don’t look like a total / brat.”

He let out a soft chuckle, stepping into the room after me.

“Forget being polite, Zhen. If I want to spoil you, I’m going to do it. Be as much of a brat as you want.”

My eyes dropped to the giant plush toy sitting next to the vase. It was a colorful unicorn with a golden horn and a soft pastel

mane.

A lump instantly formed in my throat, making it hard to swallow. It was the exact character from an old cartoon I was obsessed with.

A few weeks ago, he’d walked into the living room while I was curled up watching it.

I figured he’d tease me, but he just sat right down and watched three episodes with me. I never thought he was actually paying attention to the details, like how much I loved the character, let alone memorizing what it looked like.

I dropped to my knees on the rug, wrapping my arms tightly around the plush unicorn and burying my face into its soft fur

“You remembered,” I whispered, looking up at him through a thin vale of tears.

“I remember everything about you, Victoria,” he said, his voice dropping into something entirely sincere as he knelt down on the rug right in front of me.

He reached out, his thumb catching & stray tear before it could run down my cheek.

“Press the left paw.”

I blinked, wiping my eyes as I found the small embroidered heart on the unicorn’s leg.

I pressed down, expecting a pre-recorded voice message. Instead, a small click sounded from the back of the plush, hear the tail, and a long, thick beige scroll slowly unrolled, sliding out onto the fabric of the rug.

I burst out laughing, covering my mouth with both hands.

“What on earth is this, Elijah?”

“Read it.”

I reached down, unrolling the thick paper. Written in his clean, bold handwriting were five words:

‘Will you be my girlfriend?”

My breath hitched in my throat. I looked from the paper back up to his face, my heart thudding loudly against my ribs.

“Elijah…”

“That’s not all,” he told me, his voice barely a whisper. “There’s a second button.”

My fingers trembled slightly as I found the second heart stitched into the opposite paw. I pressed it.

A small hidden compartment built into the base of the plush popped open with a soft snap, revealing a velvet-lined slot.

Resting inside was a delicate, brilliant gold band studded with tiny, shimmering diamonds that caught the overhead light.

My jaw dropped. I looked from the ring to his face, completely stunned.

“Are you… are you trying to marry me right now?”

Elijah burst out laughing.

“Well, yeah, eventually,” he agreed. “But not tonight. For now, that is strictly a ‘will you be my girlfriend’ ring. That’s our dating ring.”

He leaned in closer, his hand reaching out to slide over my knee,

“Let me map out the timeline.” He pointed at the ring in the box. “This one’s for tonight.”

“Then, down the line, a promise ring. After that, engagement. Then the wedding ring. I’m putting a ring on every one of your fingers if I have to.”

A messy, emotional laugh bubbled out of me, tears finally spilling over.
