By the time we got back to his condo, the sky was completely pitch black.

Elijah unlocked the front door, taking my coat and setting my shoes by the entryway before guiding me straight toward the master bedroom.

The moment my back hit the soft mattress, my phone began vibrating frantically on the nightstand. I reached over and picked it up. It was an incoming group FaceTime call from Adele.

“Look who’s calling,” I smiled, holding the screen up so Elijah could see.

He sat down on the edge of the bed next to me, leaning over my shoulder as I swiped the green button to accept the call. Instantly, six faces popped up on the grid.

“Look at her, color’s already coming back to her face!” Nate hollered through the speaker, making me jump slightly.

“Tori,” Adele cut straight in from her quadrant of the screen, leaning close to her camera, her eyes filled with genuine concern.

“How are you feeling now that you’re back home? Are you still feeling nauseous?” A small, sheepish smile broke across her face as she softened her tone.

“I’m so sorry for slipping out of the hospital earlier without giving you a proper hug goodbye. Elijah looked like he just wanted to carry you off, and I didn’t want to get in the way. But… was the test result terrible? Is everything okay?”

“Adele, please don’t apologize,” I shook my head quickly, offering her a warm look. “If anything. I should be the one apologizing for holding you up in a hospital waiting room all afternoon.”

I paused for a fraction of a second, letting out a small, nervous laugh.

“And no, the test results weren’t life-threatening at all.”

I glanced sideways at Elijah out of the corner of my eye. He gave my thigh a quick, reassuring squeeze under the duvet, keeping his face completely impassive.

“I’m feeling so much better, guys,” I said quickly, offering a surface-level explanation to keep them from digging any deeper while reassuring them I was fine.

“Just a little tired, but the IV helped a lot. The doctor just put me on strict orders to rest up and told me to start eating actual, solid meals instead of running on iced coffee

“See? I told you she was just running on fumes! Leo piped up from behind Miles on the screen. We spent two hours sitting in that cramped room listening to her stomach rumble

“Hey Tori,” Alison spoke up from her own grid, her face softening with visible relief.

She hadn’t been able to make it to the hospital, but Adele and the guys had kept her updated on the phone al afternoon.

“I nearly lost my mind when Adele called me earlier to tell me you collapsed, but seeing you tucked into bed at Elijah’s makes me feel a million times better. Just promise me you’ll stay put and let him pamper you for the rest of the weekend.”

“Oh, he’s under strict orders,” I chuckled, glancing up at him.

“Glad you’re finally tucked into bed, Tori,” Miles said softly, his eyes serious as he looked into his camera. “Elijah looked like he was about to drop dead in that waiting room before the doctor came out. Make sure he actually gets some sleep too.”

We chatted for another ten minutes, listening to the guys banter about tomorrow’s final walk-through practice before they finally wished us goodnight and hung up the call.

The room fell quiet once more. I set my phone down on the nightstand and turned to face Elijah, propping my

head up on one hand.

“Are we going to tell them?” I asked softly. “Our friends… our families?”

Elijah leaned back against the headboard, running a hand through his dark, slightly messy hair.

“Not right away,” he answered calmly. “There’s too much noise happening right now with the seasonal finals: I want us to have this moment to ourselves for a little bit before everyone starts suffocating us with opinions and questions.”

“When were you thinking?”

“After the finals,” he said. “And probably after the athletic department’s mandatory one-week summer camp

I blinked, sitting up a little straighter as I looked at him in total surprise.
