Do Not Fall For The Baseball Captains novel Chapter 98

Victoria’s POV

We were supposed to be mixing the dough properly, but it took less than two minutes for things to go off the rails.

I accidentally spilled a pinch of baking soda right near his sleeve. It wasn’t even a big deal, but Elijah stopped completely.

He looked down at his arm, then looked up at me.

Without warning, he dipped his index finger straight into the tiny bottle of vanilla extract and flicked it right at me. A cold drop landed perfectly against the side of my neck.

“Elijah!” I gasped, my hand flying up to wipe at my skin. “Are you serious right now?”

“Collateral damage, baby girl,” he winked at me.

“You…” I scooped a tiny handful of flour and tossed it straight at his chest. It bloomed across the front of his navy apron ina bright white cloud.

Elijah stopped whisking his eggs. He slowly looked down at his chest, then back up at me, his eyes narrowing in a terrifyingly playful way.

“Oh, you’re so dead,” he muttered.

I shrieked, turning to run, but he didn’t even give me a chance. His hand clamped around my waist from behind, lifting me straight off the floor.

I barely had time to gasp before he spun me around and slammed my lower back against the edge of the counter, trapping me completely.

“How are you so damn fast?” I managed to get out, my chest heaving as the laughter caught in my throat.

He didn’t answer. He just crowded right into my space, his thighs pinning mine against the stone, his hands gripping the edge of the counter on either side of my hips.

He was so close I could feel the heat radiating off his skin.

“Okay, okay! Truce!” I panted, my hands coming up to rest on his chest.

“No truces,” he whispered.

He leaned down, his face inches from mine.

Slowly, his eyes locked on mine, he reached out with one finger and smudged a heavy streak of white powder right across my cheekbone.

“Elijah,” I breathed. My laughter slowly faded, giving room for the tension building between us.

The kitchen vanished, swallowed up by the heavy weight of him pressing against me.

His eyes drifted down to my mouth. He looked at me like he was drowning, like he’d been starved for this exact second for a millennium and couldn’t fight it anymore.

He hesitated for the smallest fraction of a second, as though giving me every chance to pull away.

When I didn’t, he closed the distance, his lips closing over mine in a deep, bruising kiss that completely wrecked my ability

to think

A soft sigh escaped me, my fingers instantly tangling into the fabric of his shirt to pull him closer.

Elijah groaned against my mouth, his hands sliding down my hips to hook firmly under my thighs.

He lifted me effortlessly, seating me fully on the counter, and I instinctively wrapped my legs around his waist, pulling him so close there wasn’t a single inch of space left between us.

The kiss deepened until it was completely breathless, his lips hot against mine. He tasted like the vanilla on my skin.

One of his hands slid up the back of my neck, his fingers tangling firmly in my hair to hold me right where he wanted me, while his other hand gripped my thigh so tight it was going to leave a mark.

Every soft sound that escaped my throat was swallowed by his mouth, positively destroying whatever sanity I had left.

All his fingers were completely buried in my hair, his mouth dragging down my jawline to press a hard, biting kiss right to the sensitive spot beneath my ear.

I threw my head back, my fingers gripping the strands at the back of his neck as a sharp shiver ran straight down my spine

But as I gasped for air, the fog in my head broke for a second.

I knew what love felt like-I knew exactly how heavy and consuming it had been with Caleb.

And this? This wasn’t that. My heart wasn’t aching, but my entire body was on absolute fire.

It wasn’t romance, but god, it wasn’t just “friends” anymore either.

I dragged my mouth away just an inch, gasping for air as my lips brushed against the rough skin of his jaw.
