After Mrs. Quinn left, Olivia muttered softly, “That Mrs. is acting kind of weird.”

“She’s not usually like this.” Aubrey immediately put down her fork, took out her phone, and dialed Damon’s number.
Damon answered, his voice gentle. “Bree, I’m working late tonight. I might be home later than usual.”
“I know,” Aubrey responded. “Damon, did you tell Mrs. Quinn to make me bird’s nest soup?”
“Yeah, it’s good for pregnant women.”
“But I don’t want to eat it.”
“If you don’t want to, then don’t. Give it to Mrs. Quinn, or save it for me when I get home.”
“Mrs. Quinn is insisting that I eat it, saying she won’t be able to explain it to you if I don’t. I just wanted to ask why you’re putting pressure on her?”
Damon was silent.
Aubrey couldn’t hear him. “Damon, are you there?” she asked.
Suddenly, Damon’s voice was urgent and serious. “Bree, don’t eat the bird’s nest soup, and don’t eat the food either. Find an excuse to send Mrs. Quinn out, and collect all the bird’s nest soup and food for me.”
“You suspect Mrs. Quinn?” Aubrey asked, turning her head nervously towards the kitchen.
Just then, she saw Mrs. Quinn standing at the kitchen door, looking her way. The moment their eyes met, Mrs. Quinn hurried back into the kitchen.
Damon’s tone was grave. “Better to wrongly suspect her than to risk even the slightest chance of something going wrong.”
“Okay…” Aubrey didn’t question Damon’s concerns. After all, he was always meticulous.
After hanging up, Aubrey turned and called out to the kitchen, “Mrs. Quinn, I’m craving durian. Could you drive out and buy one for me?”
Just as Olivia was about to drink the soup in her bowl, Aubrey grabbed her hand, murmuring, “Don’t eat it yet.”
Olivia looked bewildered.
Mrs. Quinn came out, respectfully saying, “Yes, Madam.”
“Go ahead,” Aubrey said with a smile.
Mrs. Quinn craned her neck, staring at the bird’s nest soup in front of her. Aubrey immediately picked up a spoon, gently stirred it, scooped up air, pretended to blow on it to cool it down, and then put it in her mouth.
Only then did Mrs. Quinn smile, turning to head to the garage.
Seeing her leave, Aubrey immediately said to Olivia, “Go to the kitchen and find some bags to pack all this stuff up.”
‘Huh? Why?” Olivia asked, looking completely puzzled, as she got up and ran to the kitchen to find some food bags, packing everything up.
Aubrey didn’t answer her question.
Once that was done, she sent Damon a text.
Damon replied:\[Have Liv take you to State Women & Children’s Hospital now. I’ve already arranged for the head doctor to give you a check–up. Hand over the packed food to the doctor too. I’ll get there as soon as I can.]
Aubrey:\[I don’t feel unwell at all. Aren’t you overreacting a little, making such a fuss?]
Damon:\[I won’t allow anything to happen to you or the baby. Just listen, Bree.]
Aubrey:\[Okay.]
She loved the baby in her belly so much, and she was more scared than anyone of something going wrong.
At the hospital, she had the check–up, and the food was handed over to the head doctor to be tested.
Late that night, Aubrey and Olivia hadn’t had dinner and were starving, but ultimately, the check–up showed that she was fine, and the baby was okay
The food was fine, but the tests revealed traces of an abortifacient drug in the bird’s nest soup.

Chapter 161
Damon levered of this over the phone and rushed from work, meeting the police at the hosp
After seeing the lab results, the police dispatched officers to smrest Mr. Quinn
In the hospital room,
Aubrey sat on the bed, shaken, her hands clammy and her face pale
Damon held her cool hands tightly, warming them in his own, gently stroking them over and over. “Don’t be scared. Thank God we caught in early. Yous and the baby are both okay.”
I just want a haly,” Aubrey said, her voice catching, tears welling up in her eyes. “Who could be so cruel as to target an unborn child?”
Each word was measured and cold as Damon replied, “We’ll find out. I absolutely won’t let them get away with this.”
Olivia, who was standing nearby, stepped forward quickly, her voice urgent. “Mr. Blackwood, something did happen at lunchtime. A middle–aged woman on a motorcycle drove onto the sidewalk and almost hit Aubrey”
Damon’s eyes snapped up, his gaze darkening, his brow furrowing. “What happened?” He turned to Aubrey, his voice laced with barely suppressed
nxiety. “Why didn’t you tell me immediately?”
Aubrey lowered her gaze, her fingers unconsciously clenching the edge of the blanket. “You were at work… I didn’t want you to worry.” She paused, then softly uttered the name, “It was Madison, Madison Lewis was the one on the motorcycle.”
Damon’s expression instantly iced over, the air seeming to freeze in that moment. He was silent for a long while, then very slowly unclenched his jaw, each word deliberate: “Madison Lewis. It’s always her.”
Damon, I also found something very strange.” Aubrey looked nervous, her heart filled with unease. “I used to ignore something. My brother didn’t even know I came to New Haven City, let alone where I live, but I remember Madison said that she came to New Haven City to find me because of debt, and she said my brother told her.”
“Have you asked your brother about it?”
I asked him, and he said he hasn’t seen Madison and didn’t tell Madison anything.”
Damon’s face darkened abruptly. He put his hand to his forehead and lowered his head, his breathing slightly heavy as a wave of unease washed over him.
“Damon, who do you think told Madison about my whereabouts? What is her purpose?”
Damon released her hand only to take it again, his eyes locking with hers, filled with a gentle resolve. “This is more complicated than it seems, but don’t be scared. I promise I’ll keep you and the baby safe. Wrap up whatever you’re working on as soon as you can. Hand off anything you can to someone else. It’ll be safer for you at home.”
“Okay,” Aubrey replied.
“We need to leave the complicated stuff to the professionals. This thing with Madison is a mess, so I’ll ask my brother to look into it.”
Aubrey nodded again.
“Let’s go home,” Damon said, gently pulling Aubrey off the hospital bed.
