Chapter 250: Pampered
Winter nights came early. It wasn’t even six yet, but the sky was already pitch black.
Aubrey got home from work. As she stepped inside to change her shoes, she noticed Damon’s pair were already neatly tucked into
the rack.
She paused for a second. She slid into her slippers, shedding her coat as she walked deeper into the house, her eyes scanning every corner of the living room.
Was he off work this early today?
A noise drifted over from the kitchen. She had just dropped her bag on the sofa when the housekeeper walked in through the back door from the patio.
“You’re home, Aubrey!” the woman greeted with a smile.
“Yeah.” Aubrey looked at her, then glanced toward the kitchen, confused. “Who’s in there?”
The housekeeper beamed. “It’s Damon. He got back early and said he wanted to cook for you himself. He’s even simmering some herbal soup for you.”
Aubrey bit her lip and gave a sweet smile, nodding to the housekeeper before heading toward the kitchen.
She stopped just outside the door, gripping the frame with both hands as she carefully peeked inside.
Damon was busy at the stove. He wore a fitted black sweater and a gray apron, his back looking tall and powerful as he focused Intensely on the cooking.
He had those broad shoulders and a narrow waist she loved. His jeans hugged his firm backside, and his long legs looked incredibly straight and strong.
‘What am I even thinking about?*
Aubrey’s face heated up. Thinking about how wild and dominant he had been in bed last night, she realized he really was a oro–both in the kitchen and in the bedroom.
She let out a soft, shy giggle.
Damon finished plating a dish and turned to set it on the kitchen island. Out of the corner of his eye, he caught Aubrey peeking in.
Their eyes locked for a split second.
Aubrey jerked her head back instantly, feeling like she’d been caught doing something scandalous. She pressed her back against the wall, her heart hammering against her ribs in pure embarrassment.
Damon’s voice came drifting out, low and teasing. “I think we have a little mouse in the house. She must have smelled the food. Is the hiding out there to steal a bite… or is she trying to steal the chef?”
Before he even finished the sentence, he stepped out of the kitchen and cornered her. “Or… the chef?” he finished, his voice low and
easing.
Aubrey’s heart hammered against her ribs. She looked up at him, trying to play it cool. A soft smile played on her lips, but she couldn’t hide the warmth and shyness in her eyes.
Damon braced one hand against the wall and leaned in, trapping her in his space. He locked eyes with her. “Home from work and not even a hello?”
Aubrey pressed her palms and back tight against the wall. “Damon,” she whispered. “I’m home.”
“Good.” His fingers brushed a stray hair behind her ear, his touch light. “From now on, say it the second you walk through the door. I want to know you’re back.”

“Okay, Aubrey breathed, her voice soft and obedient. She studied his calm face, wondering if he felt any of the bashfulness she did after last night’s passion.
But clearly, he didn’t. He was as unfazed as a seasoned pro.
Maybe in the years of memories she’d lost, he had already seen every side of her in bed.
A veteran with ten years of experience against an amnesiac rookie? She was completely outclassed. He had her right where he
wanted her.
Dinner will be ready soon. I’m just going to toss some greens in the pan.” Damon reached out and cupped her face. His thumb brushed against her soft skin as he flashed her a brilliant smile.
He turned and headed back into the kitchen.
Aubrey’s cheeks burned. She took a deep breath and followed him, her hands tucked behind her back. She sauntered over to him, her voice playful and slow. “Do… you… need… any… help?”
I’m good,” Damon replied with a smile. He moved with practiced ease, drizzling oil into the pan.
Aubrey stood by his side, watching him work the spatula before looking up at his perfect profile.
He really was gorgeous–clean–cut, healthy, and strikingly handsome. No wonder Veronica was so obsessed with him.
‘Damon…” Aubrey said softly.
Yeah?” he asked, his focus still on the cooking.
Someone once said that when you smile, it’s like every flower in the world starts to bloom.”
Damon couldn’t help but chuckle. “Who said that?”
A woman.”
You?”
Nope.”
Since it wasn’t her, Damon lost interest immediately. “Then you’ll just have to make me smile more often from now on.”
And how do I do that?”
Damon killed the heat. He plated the food and set it on the counter, then propped one hand against the marble. Leaning down, he >ressed his lips to hers. It was a soft, lingering peck. He pulled back just enough to let a smirk tug at his lips. “Like that.”
fis scent still clung to her. Aubrey bit her lip, a shy smile spreading across her face. She looked down and nodded.
Take these to the table,” Damon said, reaching back to untie his apron. “Let’s eat.
Okay.” Aubrey grabbed the plates and headed to the dining room.
Dinner was simple–just some good old home cooking. There was a small pot of herbal soup, though. His mother had sent the ngredients over through Tracy earlier. Damon had only made one serving, specifically for her.
Aubrey took a sip of the soup. She looked up, curious. “Why did you only make one bowl? Where’s yours?”
I’m in great shape. I don’t need supplements,” he said with a shrug. “That’s for you. Take your time with it.”
Aubrey went back to her soup, but her mind started racing. She paused, setting the spoon down. “Damon… if you were able to dig up that kind of dirt on my uncle’s family, did you find anything about my cousin taking bribes?”
Damon froze. He didn’t move for several seconds. Finally, he looked up at her, his expression a mix of exhaustion and patience. “Bree, we can’t just go on the offensive without cold, hard evidence. We need a solid reason first.”
Aubrey gave a faint smile. “I get it. Like the saying goes–there must be a just cause for action. You hold the moral high ground and

find a solid reason before you strike. Just like those scandals you dug up on my uncle’s family. If they hadn’t come after me, you would’ve taken those secrets to your grave, wouldn’t you?”
Yeah.” Damon nodded.
Aubrey pulled a flash drive from her pocket and handed it to him. “I’m on the same page as you. This contains evidence of Evan’s bribery. Veronica gave it to me.”
