Scarlett was standing a few feet away at the other end of the counter, waiting for her own order. She looked beautiful even in simple clothes-hair down, light makeup, and that quiet confidence I’d always admired. My heart did a stupid little flig
I wanted to say hi. I wanted to thank her again for taking care of me yesterday, for the food, and for everything. Maybe even tease her a little about how she ran out last night.
But the moment our eyes met, she looked away.
She turned her body slightly, pretending to check her phone, clearly ignoring me. Her shoulders were tense. She was avoiding me on purpose.
My stomach sank.
I took a small step closer anyway, my voice soft. “Scarlett…”
She didn’t look up. Her fingers tightened around her phone.
1 swallowed, feeling the awkwardness settle heavy in my chest. After last night taken me so deep down her throat – she was pretending I didn’t exist?

The attendant called her order number. She quickly grabbed the bag, turned, and walked toward the exit without a single glance in my direction.
I stood there like an idiot, watching her leave. My food order came a minute later. I took the bags and headed home, the weight of her silence pressing on me the whole way.
When I got back to the apartment, Rose was still on the bed, flipping through channels.
I set the food down on the small table. “Here. Cheeseburgers and fries.”
She sat up with a bright smile. “Oh wow, this smells amazing!”
We started eating together. Rose kept talking about how good the food was fries tasted. She laughed and chatted easily, clearly enjoying herself.

I ate mechanically, barely registering the flavor. Every bite felt like cardboard. My mind kept replaying the scene at the restaurant – Scarlett deliberately looking away, the way she walked out without saying a word. Why was she ignoring me? Was she embarrassed about last night? Regretting what we did? Or was she ashamed that the shy nerd next door had seen her moaning and coming apart like that?
The thought hurt more than I expected.
| Rose paused mid-bite and looked at me. “Are you okay? You’ve been really quiet.
1 forced a chuckle, awkward and strained. “Yeah, I’m fine.”
She didn’t look convinced, but she let it go.
We finished eating soon after. Rose stayed for a while longer, talking about random things and trying to pull me into conversation. Eventually she stood up, stretched, and said her goodbyes
The moment the door closed behind her, the apartment felt too quiet. I couldn’t think straight at all. The silence only made Scarlett’s avoidance louder in my head.

Chapter 141
I had to talk to her. I needed to ease this tension, to apologize if she was regretting last night. Maybe I had pushed too far. Maybe she was ashamed.
I left my apartment and walked the few steps to her door. My heart was pounding as I raised my hand and knocked
No response.
I knocked again, a little louder.
Still nothing. The door seemed locked.
“Shit,” I sighed, running a hand through my hair.
She wasn’t even in.
I stood there for a moment, staring at her closed door, frustration and worry mixing together.
She is going to make me lose my mind if I don’t see her right now. I wish I had her number.
I sighed softly, the weight of the unanswered knock still sitting heavy on my chest. Standing in front of Scarlett’s locked door wasn’t going to fix anything. I needed air. I needed to clear my head before I drove myself crazy.
So I decided to just stroll around the neighborhood. The evening was cool, the streetlights flickering on one by one as the sun dipped lower. I walked slowly, hands in my hoodie pockets, replaying everything in my mind – the way she had looked at me last night, the way she had moaned my name, and the way she had avoided me at the restaurant today. Every step made the confusion worse.
As I turned the corner near the small parking area behind our building, I saw her.
Scarlett was standing close to a black car, leaning against the hood. She wore a simple black jacket that made her look even more mysterious in the dim light. A cigarette glowed between her fingers as she took a slow drag, exhaling a thin plume of smoke into the air.
My heart jumped. Without thinking, I walked straight toward her.
“What are you doing here?” I asked, stopping a few feet away.
She looked away immediately, refusing to meet my eyes.
“Are you really ignoring me?” I pressed, my voice softer this time.
She finally turned to face me, her expression guarded. “Go away. Viktor.”
“Really?” The word came out sharper than I intended. The rejection stung, especially after everything we had shared last night.
She didn’t say anything else. Just stared past me, jaw tight,
I couldn’t hold back anymore: “Stop smoking. It’s not good for you.” I reached out and snatched the cigarette from her fingers, then crushed it under my shoe on the pavement.
“Hey!” she snapped, eyes flashing with anger. “Who are you to tell me what to do and what not to do You’re just a 26-year- old nerd who shouldn’t be close to me.”
The words hit like a slap. I sighed sonly, rubbing the back of my neck. “Are you probably mad about last night!
Her eyes narrowed. “What?”
“Are you regretting all that we did last night?” I asked, stepping closer. “Is that why you’re pushing me away?”

Chapter 141
She sighed, looking down at the ground for a long moment. “No, it’s not.”
“Then why? Why are you acting this way?”
She didn’t respond. She just looked away again, arms wrapping around herself like she was trying to hold something in.
After several tense seconds, she finally spoke, her voice quieter. “It’s not about last night, I promise. In fact, last/night was so good. I enjoyed it and even wanted more-”
She suddenly slapped her forehead, cheeks flushing deep red. The embarrassment was written all over her face. “I didnt mean it that way. What I meant was=”
I didn’t let her finish.
I closed the distance in one step, cupped her face with both hands, and kissed her.
It wasn’t soft or hesitant. The kiss was deep and hungry from the very first second. My lips pressed firmly against hers, and when she gasped in surprise, I took the opportunity to slide my tongue into her mouth. She tasted like smoke and something sweet underneath — mint from her earlier gum, maybe. I explored her slowly at first, coaxing her tongue to dance with mine in slow, wet strokes. The kiss grew hotter, more urgent. I tilted her head slightly to deepen it, sucking genity on her lower lip before diving back in, tongues sliding together in a messy, passionate rhythm.
Scarlett kissed me back just as fiercely. Her hands came up to grip the front of my hoodie, pulling me closer as her tongue met mine with equal hunger. A soft, needy sound escaped her throat, vibrating into my mouth. I could feel her body melting against me, the tension from earlier dissolving into raw want.
