Chapter 37

Ryder

Friday came too fast.

Martha had called three times already that morning

and again just as I was about to start the car. Each time the same thing: “Don’t forget to bring her home today” “Full at once at breakfast, once while I was loading Lila’s bag into the trunk, work.” “Your brother-in-law’s still on his trip, so it’s just je, remember.” And every time she circled back to the same question: “You said you had something to tell me?”

“Yeah,” I’d answered each time. “We’ll talk about it face-to-face. I’ll wait for you at your place.

“Okay, that’s cool,” she’d said. “Please take care of my baby.”

“Trust me on that,” I told her before she ended the call.

Now I stood in the kitchen doorway, keys in hand, watching Lila and Delaney finish breakfast. Lila took a slice of toasted bread from Delaney and whispered, “Thanks.” Delaney smiled and passed her the bag she’d packed – snacks, a bottle of water, and some fruits.

“You done, Lila?” I asked.

Lila nodded. “Yeah, I am.”

“Here you go,” Delaney said, handing her the bag. “I’ll miss you.”

Lila smiled and hugged her. Delaney hugged back tightly. I stood there watching. Their arms around each other. Lila’s face tucked against Delaney’s shoulder. My chest tightened. Guilt. Love. Something I couldn’t name. Their eyes met mine over Delaney’s shoulder Lila’s soft, uncertain, and searching. I forced a small smile. She returned it.

They broke the hug.

“Hope you aren’t forgetting anything?” Delaney asked.

“None at all,” Lila said.

“Okay then. Have a great journey.” Delaney handed her a small glass jar. “Here, this is what I could get. 100% natural honey

Lila took it. “Looks nice. Thank you so much, Aunt Delaney. My mom would appreciate and love this.”

Delaney chuckled and nodded. “Ryder, off you go now with her.”

I stepped closer. “Let’s go.”

Delaney smiled and waved. “Take care”

Lila smiled back, waving too.

We walked outside together. The black sedan waited in the driveway – the one I rarely drove. I unlocked it. Lila paused.

“What?” she asked. “You had a car?”

I laughed. “It’s been locked in the garage for some time. I don’t really drive. Prefer my Benita.”

“Benita?” She raised a brow as she slid into the passenger seat. “Who’s Benita?”

verber and laughed a low, real sound that surprised even me. We were sitting in the sedan; her seatbelt clicked across her chest, and her bands were folded in her lap like she was trying to look innocent. But the expression on her fare was anything but Brows slightly furrowed, lips pursed, cheeks still pink from whatever thought had just crossed her

“Don’t tell me you’re jealous?” I smirked.

She swallowed. “I am not” Her voice came out too quick, too defensive.

“But sull… who’s that?” she pressed, “Who’s she? This Benita… your ex before you met Delaney?”

I chuckled and shook my head, “No, pretty. That’s the name of my truck.”

“Oh.” She muttered the word and turned her head to stare out the window. The embarrassment hit her like a wave ears went red, and her shoulders hunched just a fraction. She looked so damn cute like that I almost laughed again.

“You’re so cute,” I said softly, reaching over to squeeze her cheek once before putting my hand back on the wheel. I started the car. The engine purred to life.

We drove in comfortable quiet for a few minutes. The road was empty, the sun low and golden through the windshield. Then something darker slipped into my head. A question that had been gnawing at me since breakfast.

“Did you ever feel bad?” I asked, keeping my eyes straight ahead. “When you were acting all lovey-dovey with Delaney this morning?”

She turned to me. “What do you mean?”

“I mean… did you ever feel guilty? Being all friendly and cute with her-hugging her, smiling at her-while you fuck her husband behind her back?”

She blinked once. Slowly. Then her voice came out soft. “Do you want me to feel that way?”

I sighed. “It’s just a question, Lila. I promise you don’t have to answer. You can just—”

My words cut off with a sharp groan. Her hand had already slipped under the steering wheel and into my trousers. Her fingers wrapped around my cock firmly, warmly, and confidently.

“What are you doing?” I asked, voice rough.

“Well,” she said, cocking her head slightly, “is this enough to answer your question?”

“Damn, Lila… I’m driving.”

“I don’t care.” Her voice was low, teasing, and edged with something darker. “You’d better hold tight. I’m about to do way

worse.”

“What?” I muttered.

She didn’t answer with words. She swallowed hard, eyes flicking to the road for a second before coming back to me. Thes she loosened her seatbelt just enough to lean over. Her hair fell forward as she bent down. Her hand pushed my trousers lower. My cock sprang free-hard, thick, and already leaking at the tip.

She smirked at it. Stared at me for one long second.

“See?” she whispered. “You even want this.”

Before I could say anything else, her mouth was on me.
