DON’T STOP (Lila and Darrell) novel Chapter 53

Chapter 53

The door clicked open, and I practically jumped off the bed the second Lara stepped. My heart was already racing before she even closed it behind her.

“Hey” she said, eyebrows shooting up at my speed. “What’s up?”

She dropped her shoulder bag on the bed and sank into the chair, kicking off her sneakers with a tired sigh.

I hovered by the edge of my bed, twisting my fingers together. “I received a message. He wants to see me.”

Lara’s eyes narrowed. “Who’ Jones?”

“No, ugh.” I rolled my eyes, flopping back onto the mattress. “Mr. Black!”

“What?” She sat up straighter. “Really? Why?”

I shook my head, staring at the ceiling. “I swear I have no idea. I’m still confused. It was the course rep who sent the message, by the way.”

Lara leaned forward, elbows on her knees. “Okay… so I think he wants to ask you why you showed up at his office the last time looking like you were about to start a revolution.”

“You think?”

“I guess. And this means another rare chance, Bella.” Her voice dropped, conspiratorial. “Wear something pretty. Lipstick. The works. Go in there and-”

“I don’t want to,” I cut her off quietly.

She blinked. “What? Aren’t you going to seduce him? Do as/we planned?”

I pulled my knees up to my chest. “Are you really going to do this, Bella?” she asked, sounding genuinely disappointed, almost hurt.

“I’m just scared and worried,” I admitted. “The last time I wore that dress, he didn’t even look at me. Not really. Not the way we thought.”

Lara tilted her head. “But you said you noticed his dick on your ass, Bella.”

“Ssssh!” I lunged forward, clapping my hand over her mouth, eyes darting toward the door like someone might be listening through the wall. “What if someone hears you?”

She mumbled against my palm, eyes sparkling with mischief. “What? Isn’t that what you said?”

I sighed and slowly took my hand away. “Also, I told you that was just his dick… it wasn’t even hard yet. He’s big, I guess,”

Lara just chuckled, shaking her head like I’d said something adorably naive. Then she reached out, placed both hands on my shoulders, and turned me to face her fully.

“Look at me, young lady.”

I did. Her gaze was steady, serious now. There was no teasing.

Do you know why I called you here?” he asked, his voice low.
