Right on cue, Julian reappeared, shaking his head faintly at Elena. “No trouble–he’s taking the food search seriously.”
Moments later, Alexander came running back. In his hands were a crushed pack of biscuits, half a bottle of mineral water, and an unopened bag of chips. His white shirt was stained with sweat and blood, evidence of a skirmish with zombies
He froze at the sight of Elena’s team eating self–heating fondue, while his own two teammates sat nearby, watching hungrily
A wave of frustration and guilt washed over him. His men had endured so much, yet here they were, reduced to staring as others dined well.
Dragging his feet, he approached Elena and held out the meager supplies he’d scavenged.
Elena didn’t even glance at them. She’d never expected him to find anything worthwhile–sending him on the errand had been a test of obedience.
Training people was like training dogs. She needed to make them fear her enough to follow orders, but also reward them just enough to stay loyal. Balance was key–never push too hard, never coddle too much.
Setting down her utensils, Elena smiled at him, “Well done. Now that you’re mine, I won’t mistreat you–but absolute loyalty and obedience are non–negotiable.”
She turned to Emily. “Grab three more self–heating fondue packs.”
Alexander stared, stunned by the beauty beneath Elena’s mask. He’d noticed her tall, curvy figure earlier, but nothing could have prepared him for her striking features–seductive eyes that held a hint of innocence, a face so stunning it bordered on enchanting
Her strength was fearsome, yet her looks were captivating.
His mind wandered as he barely registered her words.
Emily handed over three more packs, and Elena set them down beside the water bottles she’d retrieved. “The food your captain found is too shabby–eat this instead,” she told the three men.
Alexander snapped back to attention, shock registering on his and his teammates‘ faces.
Harvey swallowed hard, confirming she wasn’t joking before tearing into his fondue pack eagerly.
Alexander was reeling–not only did Elena’s team have a Spatial Power metahuman, but she was also surprisingly generous.
Her earlier aggressive takeover had made sense in the apocalypse–stronger factions always expanded–but this kindness caught him off guard, leaving him feeling awkward.
The Limpid Stream Squad had done nothing to earn this. She’d rescued them, and now she was sharing precious supplies.
As Alexander was lost in thought, his stomach rumbled loudly.
“Captain, hurry–let me help you!” Harvey urged, already tearing open Alexander’s pack.
“Captain, you’re too kind to the Limpid Stream Squad. This stuff is impossible to buy with contribution points at the base!” Jace said with a smile, his tone clearly hinting at the favor being shown.

“We’re all teammates now,” Elena said softly, her voice carrying just far enough for Alexander’s group to hear.
Alexander’s heart skipped a beat as he looked over.
This woman led a powerful team–maybe following her wouldn’t be so bad after all.
Taking the fondue pack from Harvey, he started preparing it in silence, his warm voice muffled. “Thank you.”
“This is nothing. Stick with me, and there’ll be plenty more benefits,” Elena replied, clapping her hands.
Her gaze fell on the man beside Harvey. One of his legs was tightly wrapped in bandages, but clearly badly injured.

‘The Limpid Stream Squad is yours to command,” Alexander announced, glancing at his teammates. “Call her Captain.”
Harvey and the man put down their forks, bowing their heads respectfully. “Captain!”
The fondue had won them over–their voices were filled with genuine admiration, both for the meal and their new leader.
Alexander nodded, turning to Elena. “Captain, whatever you need–just say the word.”
Elena smiled, pleased with his compliance.
While the three ate, she pulled antiseptic cream and povidone–iodine from her space, tossing them to the man. “Catch. What’s your
ame?”
The man fumbled to catch the supplies, his eyes widening when he saw what they were. “Captain, I’m Mason Cruise! Thank you so nuch!”
Elena nodded in approval.
She recognized the name–Mason lived up to his reputation as another top fighter in the Limpid Stream Squad. If she remembered correctly, he’d later awaken dual Super Powers, becoming even more formidable.
