Chapter 118
“I have to get back to base. Now,” June told the team lead. “Something’s wrong at my place!
The lead frowned. “We all came out here together, June. We’re not cutting the mission short just for you. If you want to go, go. But we’re staying. You’re on your own.”
June’s face went pale.
The world outside was a total death trap.
Every Undead out there had evolved to Tier–1, and Mutants were crawling everywhere.
If she tried to make it back alone, the road would be a nightmare. She might not even make it home in one piece.
But back with June, that gnawing dread in her gut was only getting stronger.
She felt like something big was about to go down at home. Something bad.
It left June stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Someone spoke up to comfort her. “What could possibly happen at home? Your parents are Supers, too. Even if they’re double amputees, most people couldn’t touch them in a fight.”
“Besides, everyone knows who they are. Nobody’s stupid enough to mess with your family, right?”
“Plus, Team Zenith is still back at the Base. If anything goes sideways, they’ll handle it.”
June thought about it. They had a point.
This was the Base, not the wasteland.
Who would be dumb enough to pick a fight with her?
She was the only Tier–2 Plant–type Super in the entire Base.
People are only human. Everyone gets sick eventually.
The hospitals these days are basically a joke. They can’t treat anything serious.
Even the big shots at the base have to crawl to me when they’re desperate.
If they screw with me, they better hope they never get sick or hurt. Because I won’t lift a finger to save them.
Thinking that, June forced herself to stay calm.
“Sorry, I snapped earlier. Let’s get back to the Wild Hunt,” June told the team leader. “The Compound’s security is airtight. I’m sure everything is fine.
She said the words, but she was a nervous wreck the entire
way back.
The second they hit the Compound, June bolted straight for her place.
“June? You’re back already?” the guy guarding the gate asked.
June gave a quick nod. “Everything okay at the house? Any strangers show up?”
Nah,” the guard replied. “Just some guy from the Department of Sanitation. He was making a scene, bitching about wanting more money to haul the trash, but that’s it. No one else.”
June felt the weight in her chest lift a little.
They’d been digging out the cellar lately, and the Department of Sanitation had been on their backs for weeks about the extra waste, demanding higher fees.
As long as it wasn’t anyone else, she was probably safe.
“Did you guys check inside?” June asked, trying to sound casual.
“No way.” The guard looked at her, confused. “June, you said nobody goes in without your say–so. We’ve been glued to this gate the whole time. Nobody got past us.
