Mere
Everyone turned to Zane, their eyes full of pity.
The girl he’d set his sights on was a goddamn hurricane. Could he even handle a woman that wild?
Zane stared back, completely clueless. He had no idea why everyone was looking at him like he was about to walk into a buzzsaw.
“We don’t rest until this sector is clear,” Josie announced. She flicked her wrist, and a row of Undead heads hit the dirt.
“Copy that!” The group nodded frantically. Nobody dared to talk back. One wrong move and this woman would probably turn them into human pincushions.
Suddenly, the Lirio blossom tucked into Josie’s ponytail stiffened. Its tiny petals shot straight up.
A shrill, sharp voice shrieked inside Josie’s head: “Food! Food is coming!”
Josie blinked, caught off guard for a split second.
What exactly did Lirio consider “food“?
Then, it hit her.
The Undead!
Think about it.
Lirio was Mutant Flora, and their diet consisted of only two things: the Undead and humans.
She was surrounded by people, and Lirio hadn’t flagged any of them as snacks. That only left one option.
Everyone, gear up! Battle stations!” Josie barked, stepping to the front of the line. “Massive horde incoming!” She yanked three bottles of energy water from her storage space and slammed them back, one after another.
She dumped a pile of the bottles on the ground and signaled the others to pass them around.
The stuff was like Red Bull on steroids–it snapped you awake, killed fatigue, and recharged your energy and stamina in seconds.
Most of these guys belonged to the Base, not her personal crew, but she wasn’t about to be petty now.
Right now, they had one common enemy: the Undead.
Look, Miss Josie, I know you’re tough, but where’s the proof? I don’t see or hear a damn thing,” one of the Supers from the base
arked, clearly not feeling her attitude. “Stop trying to mess with morale.
osie gave him a look–a half–smirk that didn’t reach her eyes–and then walked right past him.
She didn’t owe an explanation to a moron.
Zane and his crew, on the other hand, didn’t hesitate. They moved fast, slamming back the Energy Water and shoveling down a quick meal to keep their stamina up for the long haul.
The smart ones followed their lead,
Only a few idiots stayed behind, acting tough. “We’re all Supers here. Nobody’s better than anyone else. She’s not my CO, so why he hell should I listen to her?”
The words had barely left his mouth when a collective roar tore through the air from up ahead.
From the sound of it, there were ten thousand of them. Minimum.
The guys who were talking trash just seconds ago suddenly had legs like jelly. “How many… how many are there?” one stuttered, his ace turning pale. “There’s only a few of us. We can’t kill that many!”
All talk, no balls,” Zane sneered, cutting them a sideways look. “I wouldn’t take trash like you if you were free.”

“Alright, time to get to work.” Josie set her water bottle down and stepped forward. She raised her hands, and ten thousand golden.
blades shot into the air!
It was a hell of a sight.
A few thousand Tier–1 Undead? They weren’t even a threat to her.
Now, if they were all Tier–2 or higher… that might be a different story.
