She wanted to see just how many breaks the universe was going to give June.
It didn’t matter. Every power June got, Josie would take. Every single one.
“Back to work!” Josie called out, turning back to her crew. I’m in a good mood today. Full spread for everyone tonight!” “Hell yeah!” The team erupted in cheers.
By now, they all knew Josie’s Space was like a bottomless vault.
Freshly cooked meals, stacks of pre–apocalypse takeout–she had everything. If you could crave it, she had it.
And if you were on Josie’s team, you ate like a king.
It was the best any of them had felt since the world ended.
Even the Tier–3 Supers at the base were starting to look for an excuse to jump ship and join her.
Honestly? They’d do it just for the food.
June watched the crowd cheer for Josie, and every shout felt like a knife twisting in her gut. It was a sledgehammer to her pride. God, it hurt.
That spotlight? That glory? It was supposed to be hers.

June remembered specifically telling her mom to stockpile this
exact brand before the world went to hell.
How the hell did Josie have it too?
Was this another “coincidence“?
Doubts started spinning in June’s head, faster and faster.
Was it possible? Had everything from her lost Space somehow transferred over to Josie’s?
Could that even happen?
Josie took a massive, exaggerated bite, making sure everyone saw. “God, nothing beats pre–collapse takeout,” she teased, licking her lips. “So good!”
June finally snapped. She marched right up to Josie, her face pale. “Where did you get that? That specific brand?”
“I stocked up, duh,” Josie replied, barely glancing at her. “Why? You think you’re the only one allowed to prep?”
“But…” the words tumbled out before June could stop them. “You gave us every cent you had! Where did you get the money to buy all this?”
“Oh, right! I did give you guys thirty million bucks, didn’t I? So, when are you paying me back?” Josie’s expression went ice–cold. “Money’s just toilet paper now that the world’s ended. Tell you what–let’s settle this with supplies. Thirty million credits‘ worth. Sounds fair, right?”
“You just admitted it–you have my money. And guess what? I kept the receipts.” Josie reached into her storage space and slowly pulled out a piece of paper, waving it for the crowd to see. “Take a good look, everyone! Before the world went to hell, this family of three borrowed thirty million from me. I mortgaged my house and my car just to get them that cash!”
“The great Super June wouldn’t be a deadbeat, would she?”
All eyes snapped to June.
June wanted to slap herself. Hard.
Why couldn’t she just keep her mouth shut?
Josie hadn’t even brought up the thirty million, but June just had to go and provoke her
