Chapter 233
So what the hell was she? A joke?
Josie and Zane headed back to their own base that same night.
Winnie rubbed the sleep from her eyes as she brought over a late–night snack for Josie. “Hey, Boss. Is everything handled?” “Sort of,” Josie replied, her face dark. “Half of it. We kicked Cyrus out of the base, but I couldn’t expose who he really is.”
Zane tried to comfort her. “Look, we did the best we could. The base wouldn’t back us, and June was basically acting as his mole. Getting him out was the best–case scenario. If we’d actually tried to go for his throat tonight, I’m not sure we would’ve won.”
Josie nodded. “I know. If the odds weren’t so stacked against us, I would’ve killed him right then and there. No hesitation.”
“Human abilities have levels and potential,” she continued. “The Undead are the same.”
“Cyrus’s potential is insane–every bit as good as mine. That’s why he’s leveling up so damn fast.”
“He’s only Level 5 right now, so it’s manageable. But once he hits Level 7? That’s when the real nightmare starts.”
“Sometimes, I just feel… powerless.”
“How much stronger do I have to get before I can finally wipe out every threat in my way?”
Zane handed her a cup of hot tea. “You’re overthinking it again, Josie. Do you have any idea how badass you looked tonight?”
“The way you owned that room–that ‘world is mine‘ energy. That total, unapologetic confidence. That look in your eyes that said you’d fight to the very end and take everyone with you.”
“You’re the literal definition of a war god!”
“If even you start doubting yourself, what hope is there for the rest of us?”
“Should we all just give up and die?”
“It doesn’t matter how hard the road gets. As long as we have a goal, we keep that fire. We never quit.”
“Besides, you’re already doing incredible. You’ve pulled off things no one else could even dream of!” “No one else dares to fight above their rank. You do!”
“No one else has the balls to call them out like that in public. You do!”
“You’re doing great, Josie.”
Josie gripped her tea cup, her expression finally softening. “Do you really think I’m that good?”
“Hell yeah. Better, even,” Zane said, his voice steady and sincere. “The Blue Owl Squad is lucky to have a leader like you.”

Are you sure you guys want to stick with me?” Josie asked. “You’ve seen how it is. Between me and the undead, it’s kill or be killed. There’s no middle ground. No backing down. It’s a war to the end.”
“That’s exactly how it should be!” Zane replied. “Even if we weren’t following you, we’d be fighting those monsters until our last breath anyway.”
“After everything we’ve been through lately, the team agrees on one thing: following you is a hell of a lot more interesting.”
“So the guys sent me over to ask–can we make this official? Can we merge into one team?”
“I promise, the whole Blue Owl Squad will follow your lead. From now on, you’re the boss.”
“You’re the leader we need, hands down. No matter what shit hits the fan in the future, we face it as one.”
Josie thought about it for a moment. “It’s not a bad idea,” she said. “Honestly, we’re basically there already. Fine. Let’s loyal,
