Josie let out a manic, booming laugh. “No can do, old man! A deal’s a deal, and I always keep my word.”

With a sudden, violent downward motion, she swung the heavy meat cleaver straight down toward Sylvia’s pinned fingers!
Right on cue, June’s shrill, panicked voice pierced the air from the hallway outside. “Josie, stop! I’m here! Open the damn door!”
THWACK.
The heavy steel blade slammed violently into the solid oak tabletop, missing Sylvia’s delicate fingers by a hair’s breadth and burying itself deep into the
wood.
Sylvia collapsed into a quivering, whimpering heap on the floor. She was drenched in a freezing, terrified sweat, a dark, spreading stain blooming across her expensive pants. She had literally pissed herself in pure, unadulterated terror.
Saved!
Thank God! She’s here!
osie glanced up at the ticking grandfather clock. Exactly one hour. Perfect timing.
She looked down at Sylvia’s trembling, perfectly manicured fingers, her face a mask of genuine, theatrical disappointment.
ust one more second, and I almost had a souvenir.
The heavy front door suddenly burst open with a deafening crash. June charged into the apartment, panting heavily. And she wasn’t alone.
She had seven heavily armed, beefy mercenaries from Victor’s crew backing her up, their assault rifles raised and sweeping the room.
une had sprinted all the way up from the lobby, her chest heaving as she took in the bloody, horrifying scene in the living room.
une spat through gritted, perfect teeth, her eyes blazing. “Josie! I’m here! You messed with the wrong fcking person this time! I was going to make this quick and painless for you, but now? Forget it. You’re going to wish you were never born!”
Oh? Is that so?”
osie calmly yanked the meat cleaver out of the solid oak table with a sickening shhhk. She didn’t flinch at the guns pointed at her. She just grabbed ylvia by the hair, hauled the screaming woman up, and pressed the cold, blood–stained blade directly against the woman’s carotid artery.
he looked at June, her expression mockingly confused, tilting her head like a curious predator. “What was that, little sister? Say it again. I didn’t quite atch it over the sound of your mother crying.”
Wait–stop! Don’t move the blade!” June jumped back instinctively, her arrogant bravado vanishing in an instant as a drop of blood welled up on ylvia’s neck. She waved her hands frantically at her heavily armed guards, signaling them to hold their fire. “I was just kidding! I didn’t mean it, I was ust playing!”
Oh, what a coincidence. I was just messing with you, too!” Josie smiled, pressing the blade just a millimeter deeper.
t was pure, unadulterated humiliation. Total, raw disrespect.
But no one in June’s elite crew dared to say a single word. Not a single man pulled a trigger.
Because right now, looking at the bloody room, the severed limbs missing, and the casual, terrifying smile on her face, Josie looked completely, indeniably unhinged.
For the last three months, the laws of civilized society had kept her in check. It had forced her to play nice, to act like a normal, grieving human being.
But this was the apocalypse. The law was dead. There was absolutely nothing left to hold her back, and her inner, violent psycho was finally off the
eash.
The look in her dark eyes was chilling–a cold, nihilistic, predatory glare that clearly communicated she would happily burn the whole world to the ;round just to see it glow in the dark. Anyone who caught her gaze couldn’t help but shiver instinctively.
Josie, let’s be reasonable. What do you want?” June said, desperately choking back her boiling rage, her hands balling into fists. Just name your price ‘ve got Victor’s backing. I can get you anything.”
Straight to the point. I like it,” Josie said, tilting her chin up arrogantly. “I know you’ve been on a little scavenging spree lately with your rich boyfriend. I won’t ask for much. I want 500 tons of flour, 500 tons of premium rice, 500 tons of cabbage, 500 tons of potatoes, 500 tons of onions, 500 tons of radishes, 500 tons of assorted greens, and 500 tons of bottled water…”

Merm
Are you out of your fcking mind?!” June screamed, feeling like her head was about to literally explode. Where the hell am I supposed to get all that bulk produce right now?!*
That’s your problem, not mine, Josie replied with a casual, dismissive shrug, the cleaver still resting on Sylvia’s pulse. “You have exactly three days.” Three days is impossible! The world is a burning mess out there! Logistics are dead! I can’t move that much supply in from out of state! Give me ten days! I need ten days to pull this together! Even as she argued, June’s calculating mind was already racing. She thought of a local cold–storage company on the outskirts of the city–they supplied nearly a third of all the fresh produce in Fort City.
They had to have what she needed sitting in their deep freezers.
After all, Fort City was a massive, sprawling metropolis of over ten million people. The stock was there; she just had to take it by force.
The apocalypse had just begun. Scavenging this much raw material shouldn’t be too hard yet, not with Victor’s heavily armed crew backing her up. “Fine,” Josie said, her expression totally dead, completely unimpressed by the logistical nightmare she had just demanded. Ten days it is. But here’s the deal, little sister: if I don’t see those heavily loaded trucks in ten days, I’m taking your mother’s fingers. One a day. After those are gone, I’ll move on to her ears, her nose, her eyes, and her lying tongue.
Sylvia let out a desperate, muffled shriek, tears streaming down her face. “Josie! Even if we haven’t been the best to you and your mom, I still treated you like my own! How can you be this heartless?!”
