Because I feel like it. Any problem with that?Josie shrugged like it was absolutely nothing, the cold steel of the cleaver still pressing dangerously against Sylvia’s throat. I just want to hurt you. Do I really need a moral reason?

Fine, fine! I’ll do it!June yelled, her voice cracking. Seeing her mother being broken and humiliated like this was killing her.

She didn’t give a sht if Arthur lived or died in a ditch, but Sylvia was her mother. She couldn’t just let Josie carve her to pieces.

Cool.Josie abruptly let go of Sylvia’s sweatdrenched hair, letting the older woman collapse to the hardwood floor in a whimpering heap. Tll let her go when the delivery hits the pavement. And keep in mind, you’re paying for her room and board for the next ten days too.

YouJune was shaking with whitehot fury, her voice trapped in her tight throat, her perfect manicure digging crescent moons into her palms.

Just then, from the corner of her eye, June saw one of her heavily armed mercenaries creeping up behind Josie’s blind spot. The man was a seasoned killer, his combat knife drawn, muscles coiled, getting ready to strike a lethal blow to the back of Josie’s neck.

June’s calculating mind shifted gears instantly. She needed to keep Josie’s eyes locked on her, creating the perfect, deadly opening for her partner.

Josie, look, at the end of the day, we’re still family. Blood is blood. I get why you don’t trust us after the fight. I really do. So don’t worry, I’ll bring you every single thing you asked for! But-

The absolute moment June saw her guy was in perfect striking position, her fake, placating kindness vanished into thin air. Her beautiful face twisted into a demonic snarl as she screamed at the top of her lungs, GET HER!

The man behind Josie lunged like a coiled spring, aiming his heavy combat blade straight for a silent kill shot.

He moved like a total pro, a shadow in the dim apartment, someone who clearly knew how to handle himself in a lifeordeath closequarters fight.

A normal personhell, even a Basic Tier Superwouldn’t have stood a snowball’s chance in hell against a strike that fast.

Because of that, June and the rest of the mercenaries already had smug, victorious grins spreading across their faces, absolutely sure they had already

won.

But a fraction of a second later, their arrogant smiles froze solid.

It was like Josie had eyes in the back of her damn head.

She didn’t even turn around. She merely shifted her weight, executing a flawless, millimeterperfect sidestep. The lethal blade whistled harmlessly past

her ear.

Before the mercenary could even register that he had missed, Josie’s hand snapped up like a viper. She snatched his thick wrist midlunge, twisted her hips, and slammed him into the floor with a brutal, boneshattering shoulder throw.

CRASH.

The massive man hit the hardwood floor so hard the entire apartment shook. He was pinned facedown like a beaten dog, the wind completely knocked out of his lungs.

A sneak attack from the blind spot? Wow, June. You brought trash to a real fight,Josie said, her voice dripping with lethal boredom.

she calmly raised her heavy combat boot and ground the thick heel directly into the back of the mercenary’s throat, putting just a fraction of her weight >ehind it.

SNAP.

The sickening sound of crushed cartilage echoed through the deadsilent room. The man’s eyes bulged violently from their sockets. He choked on his own blood, dead before his brain could even process what had just happened to his body.
