Doomsday Revenge: Payback Time (Josie) novel Chapter 252

Chapter 252

Zane crushed the first wave like it was nothing. It didn’t even take effort.

They kept their word: not a single soul got within fifty yards of the base.

Any bets on when the second wave hits?Josie pulled a chair out of her storage space and sat down. They aren’t going to give up on a jackpot like us so easily.

Desperate people, she added, will do anything when they’re backed into a corner.

As long as there’s a sliver of hope, they’ll claw and bite until their last breath.

Just look at those rags they’re wearing. They’re at the end of their ropeno food, no ammo, nothing. A desperate man with nothing to love? That’s a man who’ll fight to the death.

Unless the Base plays the martyr and takes them in, this is a fight to the finish. It’s either them or us.

Josie finished her piece and gave the floor a light tap with her foot. Her rocking chair began to creak rhythmically. She looked completely ease, like she was on vacation instead of a battlefield.

The Base isn’t taking them in. No way,Zane said, dragging a crate over to sit across from her. He watched her rock back and forth, a small smile on his face. That Haven City crowd is full of backstabbers. If they get inside, they won’t just play nice and act like citizens Fury be looking to seize power or stage a coup the second they get the chance.

If

you can see it, Albert definitely can too,Josie nodded. The old man is sharp as a tack. He’s always beer the cau

So the Base is heading for a bloodbath,Zane said. But with the military integrated and the gear you gave them, their shouldn’t lose this.

Against the Undead or Mutants? The military doesn’t have much of an edge there.

But against_a_mob of starving refugees? It’s a safe bet. They’ve got this.

Unless

Josie’s eyes sharpened as she looked at Zane. Unless what?

Unless Albert tears the military apart just to keep his grip on power,Zane said. If the chain of command breaks, no one’s going to listen to him. At that point? It’s anyone’s game.

Josie burst out laughing, something clicking in her mind. Honestly? I can totally see that happening, she said, her voice dripping with amusement. That sounds exactly like something that old snake would pull!

The

guy

is a power junkie. He was obsessed before the world ended, and now? He’s completely off the rails.

You probably didn’t know this, but he’s actually a Mist Super. The catch? Both he and his son have zero talent. Their leveling speed is a joke.Look at it this way: if it takes you 100 points of XP to go from Basic Tier to Tier1, it takes them 500. Maybe more.

So, to actually gain any real strength, they have to hunt for way more power than everyone else.

When I was at the base last time, I could tell. Those two are taking some seriously shady, extreme shortcuts to level up.They’re desperate and reckless. That kind of greed? It’s going to blow up in their faces sooner or later.
