Chapter 257
Finally, Base Commander Albert made his grand entrance, acting all humble. “Look, everyone,” he said, his voice dripping with fake sincer y “I might be the commander here, but the truth is, Quinshaw Base is the one calling the shots.”
“If Mount Quinn doesn’t give the green light, I don’t dare make a move on my own.”
“Why don’t you go ask them yourselves? If Josie says you can come in, I’m fine with it.”
“But if she says no… well, my hands are tied.”
The leader of the Haven City refugees narrowed his eyes. “Josie? You’re telling me a woman is in charge?” he asked, his voice dark.
“Yeah. Don’t let the gender fool you. She’s a beast. Every heavy weapon in Fort City? She’s the one holding the keys.”
“Those shells that just ripped into your guys? That was all her.”
Albert was playing a dirty game. He was deflecting the heat, sending this pack of wolves straight to Josie’s front door.
He knew Josie’s personality. She wouldn’t let them get anywhere near her. Before they could even open their mouths to explain. he them off the face of the earth.
When they finally ended up in hell, they’d spend eternity cursing Josie. Albert’s hands would stay perfectly clean.
“Fine. I’ll go see what this woman is made of.” The Haven City leader sneered. He had no clue. He was looking down on h about to find out just how hard she could hit.
With Albert pulling the strings, the rest of the mob turned around and marched straight toward Quinshaw Base. Josie had just finished one round of shelling and was deciding whether to hit them again.
Suddenly, one of the drone operators spotted something on the feed.
“Wait, why are they coming this way?” the guy shouted. “Ms. Quinn, they’re heading right for us!”
“For us?” Josie paused for a second, and then the realization hit her. Albert was throwing her under the bus.
She let out a cold laugh. “Talk about a dirty move. We do him a favor by clearing out his mess, and he rewards us by dumping the trash on our doorstep.”
“I guess I didn’t charge the Base enough for those supplies. He’s getting way too cocky. But whatever. It doesn’t change anything.”
“Zane, add this to his tab. We’ll settle the bill with him later.”
Her voice went cold as ice. “Now, everyone, focus fire. Kill them all.”
“I don’t leave loose ends around me.”
Josie stood there, looking like a total boss. “Those things aren’t even human anymore. They don’t deserve to breathe.” “Copy that.”
And just like that, the trap was set.
Before the mob from Haven City could even get close to Quinshaw Base, a wall of lead ripped through the air, stopping them dead in their tracks.
Josie grabbed a megaphone and shouted at them, “Let me guess–Albert fed you some bullshit, right? Did he tell you I’m the one calling the shots? That he has to do whatever I say?”
The mob nodded frantically. “Yeah! That’s exactly what he said!”
“He lied to you!” Josie’s voice boomed. “I’ve got nothing to do with Albert! He paid me a massive pile of supplies to use my missiles to blow your asses to hell!”
“Use your heads for a second! If I really had that much power, why would I be living out here in the middle of nowhere? I’d be living large at the main base!”
“That’s my first and last warning. You take one more step forward, and I’ll stop being nice!”
