“I might not be able to take Josie, but I can sure as hell take you!”
Anyone else wants to talk shit about my family? Keep running your mouth, and I’ll shut it for you. Every single time.”
I’m a High–rank Super for a reason. Don’t forget who the hell you’re dealing with.”
“You think I’m just going to sit here and take it?”
The moment she finished, the whole place went dead silent.
The base commander stepped in to play peacemaker. “Alright, alright. Take it easy. We’re all on the same side here. No need to tear each othe apart.”
June let out a cold scoff. She kept her temper in check, though. She wasn’t stupid enough to start a fight with the guy running the base. The commander turned to the gossiper and barked, “Apologize to Miss June. Now!”
“Miss June, I’m sorry! I was out of line!” The guy who had nearly been killed didn’t care about his pride anymore. He stepped forward, trembling. “Please, just let it go this once. I messed up.”
June just looked at him with a icy smirk.
The commander jumped in again to smooth things over. “See? Miss June isn’t saying anything, so she’s letting it slide. This is over! Everyone pack your gear. It’s time to move!”
“We need to move fast! The ice is melting way too quickly. If we aren’t back at the base before the thaw hits, we’re dead meat!” “Got it!” the others shouted back, rushing to get ready.
June took a slow, deep breath, burying the rage deep inside. She was keeping score. Sooner or later, she’d make them all pay.
She’d make them pay. Every single one of them. With interest.
When the Base group saw Josie and her crew actually hauling ass, they didn’t dare linger. They packed their gear and high–tailed it out of Haven City right behind them.
The moment they cleared the gates?
The Haven City undead practically let out a collective sigh of relief.
Finally!
The nightmares were finally gone!
It had been terrifying.
Especially that girl with the metal and Plant–type powers. She was a straight–up monster. She killed without even blinking.
But the undead celebrated too soon.
As soon as those “plagues” left, the mutant plants and animals moved in for a total wipeout.
But that’s a story for another time.
Josie’s team made it back to Fort City in record time. By the time they crossed the city limits, the mutant flora was already waking up.
However, with the scent of the Lirio–the apex predator–clinging to them, the other mutants stayed in line. They tucked their vines away and didn’t dare make a move.
The Base crew, however, wasn’t so lucky.
When they rolled in, the mutant plants went ballistic.
It was a total ambush. Everyone was caught completely off guard.
“Everyone, defensive positions! Hold the line!”
The Base leader screamed until his voice cracked, desperately trying to command the chaos.
