Josie didn’t even give June a second glance.

That cold shoulder sent June’s hatred through the roof. The pure, raw spite in her chest was becoming impossible to suppress.

Even if there were side effects, even if it wrecked her body, she didn’t give a damn anymore.

“Is that everything?” Josie asked after the last of the supplies vanished. “If we’re done, get back to base. You’ve probably felt it–the temperature is spiking. The ice is melting fast. The mutants are already starting to wake up.”

“The base needs to be ready. Now.”

“The real war is just getting started.”

“Right away! We’ll pack it up and head back now!” the base leader chirped, a massive grin plastered on his face as he sucked up to her.

He didn’t have a choice. The girl was the real deal.

In this world, you played nice with the heavy hitters, or you died.

Josie gave her warning and didn’t say another word. She wasn’t one for small talk.

Truth was, she didn’t owe this base anything. They weren’t friends.

Whatever happened to them from here on out was their own problem.

As Josie turned to walk away, the crowd behind her erupted into whispers.

“Man, if I had a sister like that, I’d be bragging about it every damn day!”

“Right? I seriously don’t get it. Why is June’s family still rotting in this base instead of moving to Mount Quinn? That place is a fortress! It’s a bit small, sure, but the security is insane. You’re basically untouchable there.”

Exactly. Makes zero sense.”

“Actually, I heard some tea,” someone whispered, leaning in. “Word is June’s mom was a home–wrecker. A total side–chick who clawed her way into the family. Josie hates their guts.”

“For real?”

“Dead serious. A buddy of mine lived in their old neighborhood. Everyone knew the story. That woman literally drove the first wife into an early grave, then moved right into the house with her daughter like she owned the place.”

“Damn. Well, that explains it! If I were Josie, I’d leave them to rot too.”

‘No kidding! I’d probably have killed them already.”

“Shh! Keep it down! June is still part of the team. You want to die? She might be nothing to Josie, but she’s still a Rank–4 Grand Super to us!” “Drop it, drop it. Let’s go!”

Their words crawled into June’s ears like maggots, eating away at her.

The rage she’d been holding back finally snapped.

She spun around and slammed a massive water dragon right at the guy talking the most shit,

A wall of earth shot up in front of the blast, tanking the hit for him.

‘June, are you insane? You’re attacking your own teammates!” The guy was a Rank–3.5 Terrestrial Super. He was weaker than June, but he had the elemental advantage.

Earth beats water. Simple as that.

That was the only reason he’d managed to barely survive her strike.
