Chapter 277
“Unless it’s a high-rank Super. Someone like you or me.”
“So you’re saying high-rank Undead feed on high-rank Supers?” Zane hit the nail on the head. “But we can’t do the same to them? We
can’t eat them?”
Josie laughed. “Sure you can. If you want to turn into one of them.”
“That’s total bullshit,” Zane muttered, looking frustrated. “It’s not fair.”
“But humans can reproduce. The Undead can’t,” Josie said. “They’re a depleting species. If they don’t hit the next tier before their time runs out, they just become fertilizer. Humans, mutant animals, mutant flora-they’ll all feed on them.”
“Wait, you’re saying the Undead have a shelf life?” Zane asked, stunned.
“Of course,” Josie said with a shrug. “Every carbon-based organism has an expiration date. Changing species doesn’t let you cheat the rules of biology. Well… except for the high-rank ones.”
“I’ve always had a theory that once you hit Rank 9-whether you’re an Undead Emperor or a Super-you’re basically looking at eternal
life.”
“Too bad no one’s lived long enough to prove it yet.”
“But reaching Rank 9 means building a throne out of a mountain of corpses.”
“It would mean either the total extinction of the human race or wiping out every last undead on the planet.”
“Actually pulling that off? Nearly impossible.”
Zane nodded. He was with her on that.
That’s still a long way off,” Zane said, refocusing. “Let’s deal with what’s right in front of us first.”
“Come on, meeting room,” Josie said. “Let’s figure out our next move.”
She turned to Lirio. “I remember you saying you mutant plants need any energy you can get to level up. Well, a nuke just went off-don’t let it go to waste. Get over there, soak up that radiation, and rank up. Just be smart. Don’t cross paths with Cyrus. You can’t take him.”
Lirio reached out a reluctant branch for a quick rub against her, then took off like a shot. Gone in a blink.
Good.
Little glutton.
As soon as food’s on the table, I’m yesterday’s news.
Josie didn’t mind, though.
The faster Lirio evolved, the better. Its growth was her growth.
Radiation was pure fuel for the apocalypse. It was like a massive XP boost for every Undead and mutant out there.
If Lirio didn’t take it, someone else would.
There was no way she was letting that power go to waste or fall into the wrong hands. Why let the enemies get fat while she starved? With Lirio’s current level, it could handle the blast zone without getting wrecked.

Besides, the damn tree was sneaky as hell. She had no idea where it learned to be so devious.
If it couldn’t win a fight, it bailed. It wasn’t the type to stay and die for pride.
Josie didn’t sweat it.
