Doomsday Revenge: Payback Time (Josie) novel Chapter 285

But now? A young. Bet woman ith a bit like Ners walking alone was a death with

was walking bait hor just for the Undead and the Mutags, but for the buttons who werven worse.

But after a quick loop around the town, she didn’t see a sept

The concrete and asphalt were cracked and grey, the roads barely visible under the decay

The walls that used re be clean were now stained and crumbling. The whole place felt hollow:

She stepped into a random yard. Without even looking, she flicked her wrist. A throwing knife bistled through the air, pinning a rat the size of a cat to the wall.

The thing hadn’t fully mutared, but it wasn’t normal either.

That was the reality now-every living thing on the planet had changed.

Humans had probably changed, too. People just hadn’t realized it yet.

I mean, weren’t superpowers just another kind of mutation?

Josie suddenly slipped into a trance. It was that deep, Zen-like state where everything just clicks.

The energy around her started to go wild. It surged, thick and heavy.

Right then, a pack of mutated animals crept out of the shadows. They circled her, closing the gap inch by inch.

It was a nasty mix-mutated cats, dogs, a couple of foxes, and a few wild boars.

They’d caught her scent and came looking for a meal.

Too bad for them. They had no idea they’d just picked a fight with the wrong person.

One of the mutated boars snapped first. It lunged, charging straight at her.

It didn’t even get close. Josie’s greatsword was already in motion.

It looked like a basic swing, but the force behind it was terrifying. The air literally rippled as the blade cut through. It was pure speed.

BOOM!

The sound was deafening.

The boar and every other beast near her were blasted back, sent flying like ragdolls.

With that one hit, Josie found her rhythm.

Her eyes stayed shut, her body moving on instinct as she kept swinging that massive blade.

She didn’t need her eyes. Sound, scent, even the taste of the air-her senses wove a perfect tactical map in her head.

She knew exactly where every enemy was without even looking.

Meanwhile, more and more mutated beasts were swarming her position.

They came like a black tide.

The sheer scale of the fight finally caught the Blue Owl Squad’s attention.

Something clicked for them instantly. They abandoned their search and sprinted back.

When they arrived, they found Josie standing at the center of a goddamn slaughterhouse, surrounded by a mountain of corpses.

Not a single beast had managed to get within ten feet of her.

There were at least ten thousand dead monsters piled up around her.

The Blue Owl Squad was dying of envy. They weren’t jealous or bitter-they just desperately wanted that kind of raw power for themselves.

Moving from Rank Sto Rank 6 was different. You couldn’t evolve multiple powers at once anymore. You had to take them one by one.

The energy required was just too massive.

If you try to level up everything at once, you’ll just clog the pipes. None of your powers will actually break freigh

It was better to focus on one, push it past the limit, and then pick off the other one by one.

Josie was in the zone now, and disturbing her was out of the question.

One wrong move and the breakthrough would fail.

And the fallout of a failed breakthrough? It was brutal.

No one was willing to take that risk.
