Chapter 298
They d taken a small hit this time, but they’d definitely make him pay for it later
Once the convoy was well clear of the tunnel and back on the main road, they finally pulled over to rest
Josie pulled several tents out of her storage space. They were roughing it tonight.
“Everyone’s wiped, right? Josie said. She spawned a row of tables loaded with hot food and even set up a portable shower tent. “Take turns cleaning up, then eat and get some sleep!”
“Copy that
Josie hit the shower first. After changing into a fresh set of clothes, she didn’t head straight for the food. Instead, she spread a map out, eyeing their current position and the road conditions ahead to Newport City.
They were in the neighboring county now, just outside Newport. About a hundred miles to go.
Cyrus might have screwed them over in that tunnel, but it was still a hell of a lot smoother than taking the first route.
The first option was a total detour. A massive waste of time.
This tunnel had shaved nearly a hundred miles off the trip.
All things considered, it was still a win.
Hudson walked over. Ms. Quinn, aren’t you going to eat?
I’ll be there in a second,” Josie said. “We’re bunking here for the night. We move out tomorrow.”
“Got it,” Hudson nodded.
He watched her leave, scratched the back of his head, and followed her back to the group.
Meanwhile.
Cyrus was already tearing through Newport City.
He’d beaten Josie to the punch. He was already on the ground.
But Josie was right–Newport City was freaking massive.
It used to be a major hub, home to millions. The place felt endless.
Plus, there were a bunch of smaller islands scattered around it.
Trying to find one specific item in a place like this was like looking for a needle in a haystack.
When Cyrus found that mini–nuke last time, it was pure luck. He’d just happened to stumble onto it.
But this time, his intel was thin.
All he knew was that the target was somewhere in Newport City. Where exactly? He had no damn clue.
The apocalypse had been grinding on for nearly a year now. The people who used to live here were long gone, scattered or dead.
Finding anyone who knew anything was almost impossible.
Cyrus slowly made his way into the heart of Newport City.

Empty streets. Crumbling walls.
The whole place smelled like rot and ruin.
Cyrus walked through the wreckage, taking his time.
Suddenly, he stopped.
Mera
With a casual flick of his hand, a Tier–4 Undead was yanked through the air and slammed onto the pavement right in front of him.
The creature didn’t even try to fight back. It just stayed there, kneeling obediently at his feet.
Being two tiers higher, Cyrus held its life in his hands. One word from him, and it was dead.
“Who’s the strongest undead in this city?” Cyrus asked.
There was no point talking to the small fry. If he wanted real intel, he had to go straight to the top.
“It’s Lord Vane,” the Tier–4 undead replied submissively.
“Vane?” Cyrus let out a dry, raspy chuckle. “Where is he?”
“The tallest building,” the Tier–4 undead answered. “Right across from us.
Cyrus followed the zombie’s gaze.
Ahead, a massive skyscraper towered over the city. It was the only thing still standing tall.
How big was it?
Even from miles away, it was impossible to miss.
Cyrus took off, leaping toward the landmark in a blur of speed.
He didn’t stop to think if he could win. He didn’t care about the power gap.
It was pure, raw confidence.
Cyrus knew he was the best. He always had been.
He didn’t believe any other undead in the world could touch him.
