Chapter 314.
The mention of a military base instantly hooked Josie’s attention.
“The military base port?” Josie asked immediately. “Where is it? How far? And how many ports are we talking about?”
“It’s a bit of a trek. We’ll be out for at least three days,” the other person replied. “But the pay is much higher.”
“We heard there’s a haul of good supplies out there, but they’re heavy. We need a Spatial Super to help bring them back.”
“You won’t have to do anything but just help us bring the items back. Sixty credits a day, plus two meals.”
“You’ll have a dedicated security detail for your protection.”
Josie didn’t hesitate. “Deal. When do we leave?”
*4:30 tomorrow morning.” The man smiled, relieved she had accepted. “We’ll meet right here.”
There are twenty of us in total. All of them are experts. We’ll make sure you stay safe.”
Josie nodded. “See you then.”

When Josie returned to her quarters, she found a group of her people already back. She sat down with them, and seeing the slight smirk on her face, they knew she had been successful.
“You look happy, Josie. Did you get it?” they asked eagerly.
Josie nodded. “Mostly. I found the research institute and cleared out their entire nuclear materials stockpile.”
“The bad news is I didn’t find Sean Voss’s whereabouts.”
“However, they evacuated in an orderly fashion, so Sean should still be safe. I suspect he’s hiding somewhere in the base.”
“Any word from our contacts today?”
The others shook their heads. “Nothing. We just got back ourselves.”
“Was anyone following you?” Josie asked.
“Oh, definitely,” several of them said at once. “Not just people, either. The Undead were on our tails too.”
“You were right, Josie. No matter where we went, eyes were on us. Every time we looked even slightly nervous, they’d rush ahead to try and beat us to the punch.”
“So, we just pretended to scavenge for junk. We played them a few times.”
“Keep it up,” Josie said. “Keep them guessing. Cyrus Finch has no idea how much we actually know.”
“But I intercepted his nuclear materials today. He’s going to be more cautious now-and more desperate.”
“The next step is finding those nuclear warheads before he does. And keep an eye out for news on Sean. I want all three.”
The members of the Blue Owl Squad responded in unison, “Yes, ma’am!”
As more members filtered back in, they began exchanging information.
“I picked up something interesting today. There are actually three military bases around here,” Hudson Knox reported. “They’re in three different directions. We don’t know which one houses the nuclear warheads.”
“Three?” Josie was stunned. “What about the military pier?”
“That’s one of them,” Hudson replied. “Technically, that entire chain of islands is a base.”
Josie frowned. That was a problem. Three bases meant three needle-in-a-haystack searches.
“It makes sense,” Hudson explained. “Newport City was a military strategic hub. It covered the military strike range for the entire eastern and southern regions. The Army, Navy, and Air Force all had their own deployments here. That’s why there are three separate bases.”
“They operated independently of each other. We’ll just have to check them one by one. There’s no other way.”
Josie nodded. “Then we check them one by one. We’ll find it eventually. If we can’t find it, Cyrus can’t either. We’re on level ground.”
“Alright, everyone. You’ve had a long day. Get some rest.”
As the others left, Hudson stayed behind.
“Something else?” Josie asked.
“Josie,” Hudson began. “I think we should leave one team inside the base to dig into the local politics.”
“Why? Did you hear something?” Josie asked, her instincts flaring.
“Our movements reached the Undead way too fast. I suspect there are Undead spies inside the human base,” Hudson said. “The fact that we’re

looking for someone has definitely reached Cyrus by now.”
“I’m worried he’ll find Sean first and use him as leverage. He might try to trade him for nuclear weapons and warheads.”
Josie arched an eyebrow. “Good point. Starting tomorrow, keep one team stationed inside the base.”
Hudson smiled, looking a bit shy that his suggestion was taken. “On it.”
The next morning, before dawn.
Josie arrived at the mission hall at exactly 4:30 AM.
