“Really? You better work for it then, Josie sneered, her eyes dark and hollow. “June, I want to see exactly how far you get in this hellscape without a superpower. Don’t disappoint me.”
June froze. Her nails dug violently into her palms. “You know about superpowers? That means… you’ve awakened.”
Jealousy flared like a Molotov cocktail in June’s chest, hitting a breaking point.
Josie actually awakened a superpower?!
Dammit! Damn it all!
She was supposed to have a power, too. But hers was just… gone. She had asked around, and none of the other Supers had ever heard of anything like it. Once you awakened, it was for life. It was permanent.
So why did hers just vanish into thin air? Her power, her stash… Where the hell did it all go?!
Fcking hell!
What if Josie’s power was strong? What then?!
June was dying to know what her sister’s ability was.
“What is it? What’s your ability?!” June demanded, her voice cracking with desperation.
Take
guess.” Josie knew exactly how to bait the hook. Seeing the raw jealousy June couldn’t hide, she leaned into it, smirking. I’m not telling you sht.”
You-! June was about to blow a literal fuse.
Again! Josie kept getting under her skin, over and over.
‘Alright, that’s enough catching up for today. Stay alive, June. I’ve still got plenty of secrets to share with you,” Josie said, a sharp, predatory grin spreading across her face. “Like who really took that stash you and the Wallace heir were hiding. I know exactly where it went!”
‘WHAT?!” June felt like her heart was being clawed raw. She was officially losing her mind. “I’ll give you another five hundred tons of food! Just tell me! Who did it?! WHO?!”
‘Nope.‘ Josie was loving this. She was dangling the bait, and June was snapping at it like a rabid dog. This haul is enough to keep me full for a while. When I run low, maybe I’ll trade you that secret for more.”
Fu
You… June was vibrating with pure, unadulterated rage. “Aaaargh! Josie, you’re dead! You hear me?! DEAD!”
Hahaha! Too bad you can’t kill me!”
Josie stood there with her hands on her hips, laughing her head off. Seeing June lose it like this was the best medicine. All the bitterness and suffocating weight from her past life was finally starting to lift, bit by bit.
Mad already? Don’t get ahead of yourself.
The part that’s going to make her explode is still coming!
I really can’t wait to see the look on her face when she finally figures out that I’m the one who ripped her space out of her skull–and took every single scrap of food inside it.
Oh, I’m going to enjoy that.
When she finally ground June into the dirt, that was when Josie would truly be back from the hell she had lived through.
June jabbed a shaking finger toward Josie. “Josie, this isn’t over! You watch your back! Just you wait! You’ll pay for this!”
She didn’t look back. She just grabbed the handles of Arthur and Sylvia’s wheelchairs and shoved them roughly away, storming off into the distance
“Fine. I’ll be waiting!” Josie called out, her voice icy as she watched June’s retreating back. “I’m going to make sure you die in the most agonizing way possible. I’ll make you watch me climb, inch by agonizing inch, to the very top. I’ll become someone you can’t even hope to reach in this lifetime!”
“Knowing your massive ego, that’ll be a fate worse than death.”
“Killing you now? That’s too easy.”
“I want you to rot in a pit of pain and jealousy. I’m going to bury you so deep you’ll never crawl back out!”
A swarm of tiny, golden metallic daggers shimmered into existence behind Josie, swirling in a sharp, lethal arc before sinking back into her body.
