Doomsday Revenge: Payback Time (Josie) novel Chapter 372

< Chapter 372

Chapter 372.

With that done, Lirio bounced ahead, leading Jesie toward the abandoned sanctuary,

Josie and her three guards moved slowly! They had to; the road was barely a road anymore. The pavement was a mess of craters, jagged cracks, and heaving sections where massive plant roots had buckled the asphalt.

Fortunately, the team was agile. They leaped over obstacles and sprinted across gaps, keeping a steady pace. With Lirio leading the way, any matant plants blocking the path slowly retracted their vines, clearing a corridor for them to pass.

After walking for about thirty minutes, they finally stood before a sprawling ruin.

Based on the scale of the architecture, this human base had once been massive, likely capable of housing five taillion people. It had been a major settlement. Now, it was a ghost town.

Seeing a base of this size simply vanish was a sobering sight.

“Let’s go inside,” Josie said, taking the lead.

She pushed open the rusted, swaying iron gate. The first thing she saw was a sea of skeletons.

These were the people who had tried to flee but didn’t make it. Their wounds were uniform-jagged tears from Undead claws. However, the actual cause of death was evident in their desiccated remains; they had been drained of every drop of blood by mutant flora and fauna in an instant.

It was clear what had happened. First, the Undead horde had breached the base. Then, the mutant plants and animals had acted as the ultimate predator in the chain, wiping out both the humans and the Undead in one fell swoop.

No wonder the mutant plants here were so lush and overgrown. They had been feasting on millions of lives.

“This is terrifying,” one of the squad members whispered. “Imagine the despair they felt when they died.“

“Despair doesn’t even cover it,” Josie sighed. “This is just the reality of the apocalypse.”

She thought back to the first timeline. The base she had lived in was one of the largest in the world. When the Undead King breached the walls, the look of utter hopelessness in the eyes of those around her was something she dould still see perfectly.

What had she been thinking the moment the Undead King killed her? Was it regret? Anger? Or just a hollow numbness?

She couldn’t quite remember. Perhaps she had experienced so much despair that by the time death finally came, there was no room left for emotion These people had likely felt the same.

The spirit was utterly broken. The situation was beyond saving. You just accept your fate.

“This base was overrun suddenly, so there should still be usable supplies inside. Scavenge what you can, but don’t wander too far, Josie ordered Lay go with them.”
