Doomsday Revenge: Payback Time (Josie) novel Chapter 371

< Chapty 371

Chapter 371.

On the way to Newport City, They had been consumed by urgency. The return trip, however, was much more relaxed.

There was no need to rush, no need to ice against Cyrus Finch for time, and no need to take risks on uncertain paths. They simply followed the same route they had mapped out on their way in.

This route passed through three major cities-three places where, theoretically, human bases should have existed.

When they reached Jasper City, the entire place was so desolate and ruined that there wasn’t a hint of human life. Even the Undead were scarce here. The streets were dominated by mutant flora with thrashing branches and mutant fauna looking for their next meal.

Josie Quinn didn’t feel like fighting. She simply released Lirio.

The moment Lirio appeared, the aggressive mutant plants became noticeably submissive. Branches that had been poised to strike suddenly went limp. hanging toward the ground in a show of obedience.

“Lirio, go see if there are any humans left in this city,” Josie said. “Get a feel for what happened here.”

“You got it!” Lirio chirped. The little tree hopped down from Josie’s head and began bouncing away.

Before leaving, Lirio didn’t forget to drag along the socially anxious and terrified little Ivy.

“Waaaah!” Ivy wailed piteously in Josie’s mind, looking weak and helpless as she was hauled off. She ended up clinging piteously to Lirio’s branches as they disappeared into the ruins to gather intel.

“Let’s take five here,” Josie ordered. “Blue Owl Squad, set up a perimeter!”

“Yes, ma’am!”

Lirio returned after a short while, bouncing back with excitement. The little tree hopped onto Josie’s shoulder and leaned close to her ear, whispering as if they were sharing secrets. It was incredibly human-like.

Josie found it hilarious but listened patiently as Lirio reported the findings.

“Master, there are no humans here. Not a single one!” Lirio delivered the bombshell immediately. “They’ve all turned into Undead!*

“The city fell?” Josie asked. “Was there a human base here?”

“Yes, yes,” Lirio replied. “It’s not far from here. Do you want to see, Master?”

“Let’s check it out.” Josie turned to Hudson Knox. “Take three men and come with me. The rest stay here and guard the perimeter.”

Hudson immediately stepped forward. “Ms. Quinn, I’ll go with you!”

“No, you stay here. Pick three of the lower-tier members to come with me. Don’t worry, there’s no danger. There are no humans left in this city, jost explained. “Lirio has already talked to the surrounding mutant plants. They won’t dare touch you.”
