Chapter 379.
Josie Quinn’s eyes trembled violently with emotion.
The feeling of being truly validated was
given to her when she least expected it.
difficult to describe. The trust and sincerity she had never received in her previous life had, in this one, bee
Her face remained a mask of indifference, but deep down, her heart was a turbulent sea of emotion.
“Josie, don’t forget that one of our teammates is still in your spatial storage. Our motto has always been ‘never leave a man behind. We never abando teammate!” Zane Shaw said firmly. “You are our teammate, too
“Whether you admit it or not, we are a single unit!”
“Besides, compared to you, we don’t trust the people at the main base at all.”
“Everyone knows exactly what kind of men Albert Jansen and his son are.”
“What wouldn’t they do for the sake of power and status?”
“If they can frame you today, they’ll find an excuse to toss us into a lab tomorrow!”
“It’s a no-brainer.”
“We all know exactly how the military leaders died. Albert Jansen was absolutely ruthless in his grab for power!”
“We’d have to be idiots to believe a word he says!”
Zane’s words met with unanimous agreement from the room.
“Yeah, I don’t want to be sent to a lab either. I heard most of the Supers who disagreed with Albert have already been cleaned up. And we all know what that means,” someone added. “Now that they can’t hide their crimes anymore, they’re trying to pin them on us. They’re incredibly malicious!” Others nodded along. “Exactly. We clearly aren’t in their camp. If we went over there, we’d never have a peaceful day. Instead of living in constant fear. we might as well fight them to the end! We have plenty of weapons, equipment, and food. What is there to be afraid of?”
“But
you
must be prepared,” Josie reminded them. “Once the base officially declares war on us, there will be no peace. Unless I send them to the afterlife with a nuke, they won’t stop!”
“And that’s exactly what I cannot do.”
“I can’t even use too many large-scale weapons of mass destruction.”
“Because I still have a shred of a conscience. I still want to preserve the sparks of humanity.”
“One by one, the other bases are falling. Humans are dying in droves.”
“If all of humanity dies and only we remain, what’s the point?”
“I won’t coddle Albert Jansen, but I have to consider the innocent civilians at the bake.”
T
“Furthermore…” Josie gave a bitter laugh. “To be honest with you, I have a strange premonition that the final hope for humanity rests in my hands
“It might sound arrogant, but I truly feel it.”
Ever since her spatial storage reached Tier-6, Josie had felt this mysterious sensation. She couldn’t explain why, but it was as if a voice from the depths of her soul was calling out to her.
With great power came great responsibility. Josie had realized this the moment she stepped into the Tier o ranık.
The fact that the world had allowed her to start over must have come with a price. If she failed to complete whatever task lay ahead, her rebirth woul likely be deemed a failure.
