Chapter 383
Chapter 383.
The forces from the main base has already launched three separate charges, but Zane Shaw’s men had repelled every single one.
Quinshaw Base was small, which made it exceptionally easy to defend. Even though the enemy had them surrounded on all sides, they couldnir gains an inch of ground. Each wave was forced back into a retreat.
Every time a skirmish ended, a swarm of mutant flora would descend to clear the battlefield. They devoured the corpses until the ground was picked clean, spitting the bones out along the roadside. Within moments, the area was spotless.
The only thing left behind were the growing piles of bleached white bones lining the road-a sight so gruesome it would chill anyone to the marrow. These heaps of skeletons were a mangled mess; it was impossible to tell which bone belonged to whom.
But at this stage of the world, no one cared. When you were dead, you were dead. No one had the luxury of worrying about what happened to their
remains.
“They probably won’t charge again today, but don’t let your guard down,” Zane said as he watched the base forces retreat. This might be a feint. Keep the sentries on high alert.”
“Yes, sir!” The members of the Blue Owl Squad immediately began rotating their shifts.
Josie Quinn stood to the side, her arms crossed over her chest, her expression cold and silent.
Just then, Winnie Lane ran over, gasping for breath. “Ms. Quinn The people from the Agri-Science Institute are looking for you. They said they have something critical to report!”
Josie nodded and turned to follow Winnie.
The moment she arrived, she was ushered into the meeting room. Seeing the grim expressions on everyone’s faces, a sinking feeling sertled in her gut. She didn’t waste time with pleasantries. “What happened?”
“Chief Quinn, look at this.” Sean Voss handed a long strip of recording paper to Jesie. These are the results analyzed by the seismograph.”
“I can’t read this. Just give me the bottom line,” Josie said, glancing at the data “Is there going to be an earthquake?”
Among the equipment Josie had brought back from the Newport City Nuclear Research Institute was a high-precision seismic frequency tester. As for why a nuclear research center would have one-well, that was their business. Nuclear tests were usually conducted in remote deserts or deep underground, far from civilization. Without a seismograph, how else would they measure the vibrations?
