Chapter 39g
Chapter 399.
Kira Sinclair grit her teeth. “I can leave the children. We’re a unit. If I leave, they won’t survive a single day.”
“Are any of them Supers?” Josie Quinn asked.
“Yes,” Kira replied with a bitter smile. “But their levels are too low, and their abilities are pretty useless. One is a Tier-2 Rain Super, another is a Tier-1 Terrestrial Super who just awakened, and there’s a Tier 2 Wind Super. They’re all dead weight in a real fight.”
T
Josie raised an eyebrow. “That does sound like a lot of work for you.”
“I have no choice. They’re my responsibility now,” Kira said, shaking her head. “They call me ‘Big Sister Kira.’ As long as they do, I’ll protect them.’
“What if I take your entire group?” Josie asked. “Would you be willing to come with us then?”
Kira didn’t answer immediately. She studied Josie’s face. “Can I ask why? Why would you take on a group of burdens like as? Even if my combat power is decent, I’m nothing compared to you. I’m at best evenly matched with your teammates. I want to know the real reason.”
“Your caution is well-placed.” Josie found herself liking Kira more and more. “To be honest, the one I want is you. But for your sake, I’m willing to rake in the dead weight you carry. Because you’re worth it.”
“Anyone who refuses to abandon children during the darkest times of the apocalypse is someone who will never abandon their teammates. You’re exactly the kind of person I need.”
“I need people who will give their all for the team and fight to survive. My team’s structure is too one-sided right now. My teammates agree-we need fresh blood. These kids? I think they’re a perfect fit.”
“And there’s one more thing I can promise you,” Josie continued. “Our team is packed with experts and professors. Before the world ended, any one of them was a titan in the scientific community. The world may have ended, but kids still need an education, right? I have the best teaching staff in the world. Are you sure you don’t want to
Josie’s words left Kira stunned.
Condor that?”
“Those elders… they’re all experts?” Kira asked, her voice shaking.
“Every single one,” Josie confirmed. “They’re from the Agri-Science Institute. Their core knowledge is universal. They’re more than qualified to teach university-level courses, let alone middle or high school knowledge. It would be easy for them.”
Kira felt her resolve wavering.
“I treat my elders well, and I’ll do the same for you,” Josie added. “I’m not a saint, but I’m not a monster either. I have plenty of supplies. Feeding a few extra mouths is nothing to me. Think it over, but I won’t wait long. We’re taking a thirty-minute break. We move out in half an hour. If you haven’t given me an answer by then, I’ll assume you’ve declined.”
