The base gates silently creaked open.

A long convoy quietly rolled out./

June sat in one of the middle vehicles.

June was driving a seven-seater SUV, which could hold a significant amount of gear.

Arthur Quinn and Sylvia Sutton sat in the back.

Since they both had prosthetic limbs and couldn’t drive, the task fell to June.

The entire cabin was packed with supplies, mostly food. There were very few other items-only the bare essentials.

Other families had similar setups.

Everyone was deathly silent, making as little noise as possible.

They all knew that once they left, they would never return to this place.

Almost everyone leaving looked back at the place where they had lived for over a year the moment they crossed the city gates.

When they first arrived, they had been full of hope and a desperate desire to live. They had paid a high price just to step through those gates. Now, none of them could have imagined they would be leaving in such a secretive, hushed manner.

Sylvia sighed. “I really didn’t expect that we’d be leaving after only a year! If I’d known it would end like this, we wouldn’t have spent so much effort fixing up the house. What a waste of time!”

Arthur snapped, “Just shut up! Even that house was earned by our daughter. She isn’t saying anything, so why are you complaining?*

June, who was focused on the road, glanced out the window. “In the face of life and death, what do those things matter? Once we follow Josie to the new destination, we’ll just set up again. Besides, as long as we have power, is there anything we can’t get?”
