Doomsday Revenge: Payback Time (Josie) novel Chapter 458

Chapter 458.

Chapter 458.

When the earth swallowed people like this, it wasn’t a simple fall into a hole. The fissure moved like a giant mouth. Like a wave of sail the ground would heave up ten meters and then fold back down, crushing and burying people and supplies beneath the weight of the

crust.

Many of those swallowed by the land weren’t dead the moment they were buried. They were trapped deep underground, able to hear the chaos above but with zero chance of escape. They could only lie in the dark, waiting for death to slowly arrive..

Arthur Quinn’s legs turned to jelly at the sight. He couldn’t even stand up.

June was forced to grab her parents and drag them backward, inch by inch. They barely escaped being consumed by the shifting cracks

Albert had been right about one thing: June Quinn’s luck was uncanny.

Dozens of fissures opened and closed, merged and split, but not a single one reached the spot where June stood. Albert and Tave managed to survive solely by piggybacking on her luck, dodging the earth’s hunger time and time after time.

A long time passed.

Finally, the tremors began to subside.

June sat on the ground, gasping for air, her body trembling with exhaustion. As much as she was a piece of work, she truly cared for her family. In the face of such a terrifying crisis, she hadn’t abandoned them. Or perhaps, because she had done so many terrible things, she needed a stable family to prove she still had a shred of humanity left.

Cries of agony and despair echoed from the distance.

Looking at the sparse groups of survivors scattered across the ruined landscape, it was clear the casualties were catastrophic.

Tate sat down next to June, breathing heavily. “What should we do now?”

“Yes,” Tate said. “We’ll follow your lead.”

A smirk played on the corner of June’s mouth.

The opportunity had arrived. Her chance for a total coup was here.

June turned her gaze to Albert and Tate. “If you want my opinion and my vision for the future, I have one requirement.”

“Name it,” Albert replied. After witnessing that earthquake, he understood that June’s destiny was strange-blessed by the heavens themselves. He had to keep her close.

“Total control of this group,” June said, her ambition laid bare. “I want absolute command. From this moment on, there will only be one voice in this convoy: mine.”

“You’re free to refuse, of course. It doesn’t bother me.”

“But if you want my help, I want the power!”

June didn’t hide her hunger for status anymore. She wanted to be a woman of power. She wanted to call the shots in this apocalypse, standing at the pinnacle of humanity to enjoy ultimate glory and luxury.

Albert never expected June to demand something so bold. His brow furrowed, and he prepared to argue,

June spoke over him. “Look at what’s left of your convoy. There aren’t even ten thousand people left alive, are there? Do you still think you’re the high-and-mighty Chief of Fort City Base?”

“After an earthquake this strong, do you really think the coastal regions still exist?”

A Doomsday Quake is always followed by a Doomsday Megatsunami.”

“I’d bet every province east of The Southern Lakes has been erased from the map.”

“If it weren’t for the fact that we’ve known each other for a while, I wouldn’t even bother picking up

this mess.”

“After all, fortune has always been on my side. I could easily take my parents and leave this group. With my fortune, I could head west, find the next suitable place to settle, and start over!”

“What does the life or death of anyone else have to do with me?”
