Doomsday Revenge: Payback Time (Josie) novel Chapter 462

< Chapter 462

Chapter 462.

Once they reached the bottom, they saw that the road conditions were even worse than the mountain. On the slopes, the Supers could at least reinforce the path. The ground below was heaving and buckled, looking like the skin of a face ravaged by deep acne scars magnified a hundred times. It was impossible to drive. No vehicle could handle this unless it was a tank.

Everyone looked at Josie.

Josie looked at the sky. “Despite the grueling terrain, we must push on. This place is still too dangerous. We need to get as far away as possible. No one can say for sure if there will be a second quake. If it hits again, what if this spot is the epicenter?”

Her words resonated with everyone. If this area became the epicenter of another quake, they might as well report to the underworld right now. Since they didn’t want to die, they had to push through.

They continued to stumble forward, strung together like beads on a line.

Josie saw Cyrus and Julian following at the back. “The danger is over. You can go your own way now.”

“You’re something else, Josie. Use us and throw us away,” Julian said. “Haven’t we gone through life and death together? When you were using my brother to protect those people, why didn’t you tell us to go our own way?”

Cyrus didn’t speak, but his look said the same thing.

“We’re different species. Traveling together isn’t appropriate,” Josie said.

“It’s not like we’re dating. What does species have to do with it?” Julian countered. “You’re just afraid we’ll eat your people. Don’t worry, we aren’t that desperate for a snack.”

Josie arched an eyebrow. “You’re sure you want to stay with us?”

Cyrus nodded.

“Fine. Old rules. If we hit trouble, we fight together.” Josie realized she couldn’t drive them away, so she settled for a compromise. “But let’s be clear: don’t touch my people. Otherwise, I’ll give my life to make sure you stay here, too. If we die, we all die together.”

“Fine, let’s go.” Cyrus took the lead. “We’ll clear the path ahead. Is that acceptable?”

“Deal!” Josie was waiting for that.

Having the Undead clear the way meant no other zombies would bother them. At the very least, with those two around, no mindless horde would come looking for trouble. She didn’t fear the Undead, but she was short on time. Her mission was to run for their lives, not waste time fighting on the road.

They traveled for three full days through the ruins until they finally left the disaster zone behind.

The next stretch of road wasn’t a total ruin, but it wasn’t much better. All landmarks had been destroyed. They had to use the sun to navigate, picking a direction and simply pushing forward. Luckily, they had plenty of people skilled at navigation, so they didn’t walk in circles or double back.

“We should be almost out of The Southern Lakes,” a geologist said, kneeling down to pinch the soil. “Further ahead is the territory of Sierra City!”

Everyone’s spirits lifted instantly.

The Mountain City! They were finally arriving at Sierra City!

The situation in Sierra City was indeed much better than outside. While there were signs of the quake, the land hadn’t split open. This suggested the magnitude had been lower here, causing less damage. The geology here was significantly more stable.

“Everyone, pick up the pace!” Josie was energized, too. “Let’s make one final push straight to our destination!”

“Yes!” the group cheered in unison.

It hadn’t been an easy journey, but they had maintained a perfect record of zero casualties. In the apocalypse, such a fear was unimaginable.

Compared to June’s group trailing behind them, there was a world of difference between them.
