Chapter 465.
June Quinn’s team had suffered catastrophic losses after the series of aftershocks
From a convoy of over twenty thousand people, only three thousand remained. The loss of supplies was even more swaggering to
much to count.
Albert and Tate Jansen’s hearts bled with every loss, but they were simply grateful to be breathing. They were relieved they had latened to June, traveling light with only a skeleton crew as they left Fort City. Otherwise, they’d be fish food at the bottom of the ocean by now
The fact that the earthquake was still this powerful even after they had traveled so far meant that Fort City was almost certainly gone. A world-shattering earthquake-just the name alone was enough to make one’s skin crawl. Everyone had seen disaster movies, but experiencing it in person was a different reality entirely.
Albert and Tate became increasingly convinced of June’s incredible luck. Even if it meant handing over total control, they were determined to cling to her. Besides, with so few people left, there wasn’t much authority left to fight over. By the time they reached their destination, who knew how many would be left?
The priority now was to protect the remaining supplies. Once they reached their goal, they would use those resources to secure a comfortable place for themselves.
June had been proud to take command, but the relentless aftershocks had dampened her spirits. Watching her people die and supply trucks vanish one after another left her feeling frustrated and defeated.
During the final aftershock, the group happened to be passing through the magma zone. When they saw the boiling lava oozing across the shattered ground, they froze in terror before turning to run for their lives. One wrong step into that fire and they were finished.
The aftershock showed no mercy. A violent jolt bucked the earth, launching three people into the air and tossing them straight into the magma pool. The poor souls didn’t even have a chance to scream before they were incinerated into ash.
