“Winnie cleared the whole lot for us. Talk about a free ride,” one guy scoffed. “Move it! Let’s grab the supplies while the coast is clear.”
“Hell yeah. And that scary bitch killed all those thugs, too. No one’s left to mess with us. We’re set.”
Winnie’s a damn idiot for leaving with her,” another added, shaking his head. “Why leave? This mall is a fortress. The doors are solid, and the Undead can’t get in. She chose to go out there and suffer like a dog for nothing.”
“Good riddance. One less mouth to feed means more for us.”
“Damn straight.”
The crowd laughed and joked as they went back to scavenging. They had no idea they had just blown their last shot at actually surviving this apocalypse.
Josie didn’t hold back. She tore through the streets, pushing the car to its limit.
She slammed into every undead in her path. Foul, rotting blood sprayed across the windshield and splattered into the car.
Josie didn’t flinch. She didn’t care about the smell or the sound of bones snapping under the tires.
This was nothing.
In her past life, she had lived through literal hell. This was a walk in the park compared to that.
Some rich kid had tricked this ride out before the world went to shit. It was built like a beast.
She sent the undead flying like bowling pins, but the front bumper didn’t even have a scratch.
Winnie white–knuckled the grab handle, praying she wouldn’t get tossed out of her seat.
Her new boss was a freaking psycho behind the wheel!
This wasn’t driving.
This was a goddamn demolition derby.
They barreled through the city ruins, leaving a trail of broken bodies behind them until they finally hit the outskirts.
The crowds of undead thinned out once they reached the suburbs.
Thirty minutes later, Josie reached her destination.
Screech! The car slammed to a halt.
Josie kicked her door open and looked at Winnie. “This is as far as I take you,”
Where are you going?” Winnie asked. ‘How can I find you again?
Don’t bother. I’m not looking for company. This is it,” Josie said. She tossed a crate of food onto the dirt, slammed her foot on the gas, and roared away.
Winnie stared at the fading tail lights of Josie’s car, biting her lip hard.
She didn’t hesitate for long. She took off, running into the dark, chasing the dust the car left behind.
So what if the powerhouse didn’t want to take her along?
She would just stay as close to Josie as humanly possible
Maybe one day, Josie would see her grit and loyalty and finally let her in
Josie made it back to the plateau she’d scoured earlier.
She scanned the area and picked a sheltered spot tucked against the mountain wall to block the wind With a flick of her mind, she pulled the RV ou of her spatial storage

high–end solar panels lined the roof, pumping out a steady stream of juice. Endless power
Inside, it was basically a mansion on wheels: two bedrooms, a dining area, a lounge, a full kitchen, and a bathroom.
