Chapter 470.
Chapter 470.
It took June’s team two full days to navigate around the magma zone and fight their way back toward their original route.
While June had lost many people and supplies, the members of her inner circle-selected by Albert Jansen and Tate Jansen- exceptionally skilled. One could not join their core team without a specialized talent.
Among them were experts in geology, meteorology, and environmental analysis.
By tracking a series of subtle signs, they successfully located the route Josie and her team had taken.
With a group as large as Josie’s, they had to use vehicles or walk in formation. Given how badly the ground had been torn up, anyone passing through was bound to leave a trail.
Following the ruts and footprints made it relatively easy to determine Josie’s direction.
It was while they were tracking these prints that June met her destiny.
From a distance, she spotted a man engaged in a fierce battle with a swarm of mutant voles.
June was never one to meddle in others’ business, but the moment she saw his silhouette, she acted against her usual nature. She didn’t
just go to help; she fought side-by-side with him, back-to-back.
Two water dragons surged from her palms, instantly blasting the aggressive mutant voles a dozen yards away.
“Thanks, beautiful!” Jaxon Sterling said, nodding toward June.
“You’re welcome.” June instinctively turned her head, and their eyes met.
The moment their gazes locked, they both froze.
A strange, fluttering emotion-one that could only be described as a heartbeat-instantly enveloped them.
Love at first sight.
“What’s a beauty like you called?” Jaxon’s gaze became burning and direct. “I’m Jaxon Sterling, twenty-six years old. I have the Devouring Superpower, Tier-6. How about you?”
“I’m June Quinn, twenty-one. I’m a Tier-6 Aquatic Super,” June said, intentionally showing off her power. “I’m the leader of this
convoy.”
Sure enough, Jaxon’s eyebrows shot up. “Miss Quinn, you are truly impressive!”
“Call me June.” June didn’t like her surname much; it always reminded her of Josie, and she hated that.
“Alright.” Jaxon assumed June was interested in him as well, given that she had invited him to use her name so quickly. “Then just call me Jaxon.”
“Why are you out here alone?” June asked. “Are you from around here?”
“In a way,” Jaxon replied. “But maybe we should kill these damn voles first?”
“Right!” June worked with Jaxon-or rather, she took the initiative-to wipe out the rest of the mutant voles.
June invited Jaxon to travel with her convoy. “You must have just escaped the earthquake too, right? That disaster cost me much of my assets and manpower!”

“You’re right. My teammates all died in that quake. I’m the only survivor,” Jaxon said, his mood dipping. “Who could have expected an earthquake that massive? It came out of nowhere! We had no warning! When it hit, we were all inside having dinner. In an instant, the house collapsed, burying everyone inside. I only survived because I happened to be in the bathroom.”

I saw how bad it was and just ran for my life. But..Jaxon Sterling let out a long sigh. I couldn’t get out. Everything was shukings everything was collapsing. I’ve never seen a quake that big!”
“I don’t even know how I survived these last few days. I was just in a daze, running and hiding everywhere.”
“But where could I hide? Everything was destroyed.”
There used to be a group of us living around here-not many, maybe a thousand people.”
“After the quake, they’re all dead.”
I’m the only one left.”
As he spoke, Jaxon’s eyes turned red. “At first, I found a few survivors. We teamed up to escape”
“Then the aftershocks hit! They weren’t any smaller than the first one.”
“The ground was splitting open like crazy, wells were exploding, and hills that used to be high just crumbled into nothing! Flat ground would suddenly bulge into a mountain in an instant.”
“Everything was changing. Sometimes I’d be walking and suddenly find myself standing on a mountain peak.”
I’ve never felt such a frantic despair in my life’

June comforted his softly. “It’s okay. It’s over now. We’re the same. We started with over twenty thousand people, and now we re down

“Who knows how many of these two thousand will be left by the end?
“By the way, we’re heading to Sierra City. What about you? Want to come with us?
“Sierra City? That’s still quite a distance from here” Jaxon thought for a moment. “If you don’t mind, I join you. After all, I have nowhere else to go.”
“Of course we don’t mind,” June said with a smile. “Oh, you mentioned your superpower is
“The Devouring Superpower, Jaxon replied proudly. You can try attacking me”
“Huh?” June was taken aback. “Is that a good idea?”
“It’s fine. Hit me with whatever you’ve got Jaxon grew more arrogant. To immune to all ability arracks of the
Immune? A thought flashed through June’s mind. “To any ability?”
“Yes” Jaxon lifted his chin “Any ability!”
June didn’t quite believe him. She launched a water dragon at him
