Chapter 529.

Merging the bases.

Except for Malcolm Monroe, no one wanted to hear those words.

Whether it was Josie Quinn, Nadia Neville, or Felix Fletcher, they all preferred running their own lives. None of them wanted to get tangied

with the Official Base.

up

But if they were pushed to the brink of life and death, they might not have a choice.

In a world like this, fighting alone usually ended in a single way: death..

Josie’s situation was slightly better. Her territory was small, which meant the defensive pressure was manageable. The Peaks Base and The Rivers Base, however, were massive. Relying on their current manpower to defend every inch of their borders was a pipe dream.

Furthermore, mutant plants could simply root themselves anywhere.

They were impossible to fully guard against. Even if you stopped one threat, there were two more waiting to strike.

“I won’t be participating in any base merger,” Josie said flatly. “I’m eccentric and stubborn by nature. I won’t be controled-and frankly, no one could ever rule me.”

“I don’t care how you three merge. Our business deals will continue as usual.”

Josie’s answer didn’t surprise the other three in the slightest.

She was currently the strongest human alive. She had earned the right to be that arrogant. Even Malcolm, the Official Base Commander, didn’t dare speak harshly to her.

A Tier-7 Super-and a multi-power Super at that was not something to be trifled with.

Especially since she had siphoned the Devouring Superpower. She could essentially ignore any elemental or energy-based attack at Tier-7 or below.

It was a terrifying realization. It meant she was virtually immune to all “elemental” attacks from both humans and the Undead.

Beyond that, her expertise wasn’t limited to superpowers; she was a master of martial arts. In a one-on-one fight against a mutant animal, she wouldn’t lose. As for mutant plants… she had a contract plant that was a Primal. She was practically guaranteed to win.

She had the strength to back up her confidence.

But the others?

Felix Fletcher and Nadia Neville didn’t share that confidence. Once their bases were overrun, they would be dead.

Yet, handing everything over to the Official Base felt like a bitter pill to swallow. If they had known it would come to this, they wouldn’t have gone through the trouble of becoming independent in the first place. It was a mess.

Just then, someone burst into the room. Without even pausing to knock, the messenger shouted, “Base Commander! You need to get to the southeast corner immediately! The mutant animals have launched an attack on the Undead! They’re fighting!”

The words acted like a starter pistol.

All four leaders stood up simultaneously and bolted out with high-spirited roars.
