e crawled back out through the hole she’d made. She didn’t bother patching it up; she just turned and vanished into the night.
Ten minutes later.
A roar of pure rage echoed from behind her, loud enough to shake the sky. “WHO DID THIS?! WHO?! When I find out who ripped me off, I’m going to skin them alive!”
Josie just kept laughing. She kicked her dirt bike into gear and tore off into the distance!
“Ms. Quinn, look over here!” Someone finally spotted the small, jagged hole in the back of the warehouse.
June took one look at it, and her face turned a sickly shade of purple.
That tiny hole looked like a middle finger to their faces, mocking their stupidity.
If there was a shortcut in the back they could just walk through, why the hell had they been busting their asses trying to break down the front door?
“Wait, something’s wrong!” someone shouted, pointing at the edges. This hole is fresh! Someone beat us to the punch! They can’t have gone far!”
That doesn’t make sense, though,” someone else argued. “Look at the size of it. How much could they even take? You couldn’t even fit a bag of rice through that gap.”
‘No,‘ June said, her face turning a sickly shade of gray. “If it’s a Spatial Super… one person is all it takes to wipe this entire warehouse clean.”
What? They can carry that much?” a guy gasped. “Man, if we had a Spatial Super in our crew, we’d be freaking invincible. We could pack up every supply we find, take it anywhere, and never have to worry about looters.”
Every word felt like a physical stab to June’s chest. She felt like she was about to puke from pure rage.
Exactly. Exactly.
That was supposed to be her! She was the one who was meant to have that power!
But now, it was gone. All of it. Gone!
une’s eyes burned red with fury. “Who the hell is doing this? Who keeps stalking us? They’ve screwed us over again and again!”
I thought they’d finally backed off. I thought they were done stealing from us. I never expected them to be waiting here,te hit us again.”
How the hell did he know?” a voice growled, breaking the tension. “How did he know the supplies were here? And how did he know we’d show up oday just so he could hijack the haul?”
Dead silence followed.
Nobody said a word.
Victor’s eyes scanned the room, cold and sharp. “You’ve all been with me for years,” he snapped. “You know how I roll. I don’t tolerate backstabbers. I hate a rat more than anything in this world.”
Mr. Victor, you have to trust us, one of them pleaded. “We’ve been glued to each other’s sides these past few days. Besides, this run was a last–minute
you made just this morning. Even if someone wanted to beat us to the punch, how could they? None of us have a Spatial Ability
all
Exactly, another added. ‘It’s not like any of us could’ve pulled a disappearing act right under everyone’s noses.”
une paused. They had a point.
f this person was actually in the group, she couldn’t afford to get on their bad side. No, she had to win them over–whatever it took
A Super. And a Spatial Super with massive capacity, at that.
Someone like that was pure gold. A total game–changer.
They’d spent the last few days keeping their cars to the ground, hunting for any scrap of intel they could find.
The odds of awakening were trash. Less than one percent of people actually made the cut.
And let’s be real–most people’s powers were complete garbage.
A Pyro user could barely produce a flame bigger than a Bic lighter. An Aquatic user? They’d have to strain for an hour just to squeeze out a single cup of
water.
