Merity
Chapter 554.
“I heard you broadcasted a video across all the base screens earlier?” Malcolm asked casually, as if just making conversation.
June’s heart skipped a beat, but she kept her expression neutral. “Dad, I was just playing a joke with Sister! She dotes on me, so she let me
film it.”
“I see.” Malcolm laughed. “You sisters really do have a close bond.”
June was starting to second-guess Malcolm’s tone. She answered vaguely, “Regardless, I’m the only blood relative she has left. In an era where almost everyone has lost their family, a blood bond is precious.”
“I made a lot of mistakes in the past, but Sister forgave me. It’s likely because of that bond.”
Once again, June was using Josie’s status to bolster her own importance. She hoped Malcolm would give her a position of responsibility based on her connection to the strongest human on Earth.
She had no idea that the “responsibility” Josie had planned for her was more than her life could bear.
Malcolm smiled.”Yes, that’s good. Your sister even prepared a gift for you. I think you’ll like it.”
June’s eyes flickered with uncertainty.”She… gave me a gift?”
Sylvia scoffed.”A wolf giving a gift to a chicken? She’s definitely up to no good.”
Malcolm laughed. “Alright, it’s a good thing the sisters are getting along. Sylvia, when are you going to give me a son?”
Sylvia’s face flushed red instantly, she gave Malcolm a playful, flirtatious look. “Stop it! Our daughter is right here!”
Though June was smiling, a strange sense of unease rose in her heart. She felt like something was about to happen.
What could it be?
She had already broadcast the video of Josie’s guarantee across the entire base. As long as Josie wanted to stay in Sierra City, as long as she wanted to be the leader of humanity, she couldn’t break her word. She couldn’t touch June.
Essentially, June believed she was carrying a get-out-of-jail-free card.
What else could Josie do to her?
But June had no idea that Malcolm’s heart really was harder than stone.
He didn’t care about a mere stepdaughter. He was the type of man who would serve up his own ex-girlfriend-the woman who helped him take power-on a silver platter.
In his eyes, there was only himself and his self-interest.
Malcolm poured a glass of wine for June. She was overwhelmed by the gesture.”Dad, I can do it myself!”
June, I’m planning to marry your mother,” Malcolm said with a smile. “Maybe you’ll have a little brother soon!” Sylvia looked at Malcolm in pleasant surprise, nearly jumping with joy. She had finally waited for this day!
June also felt a wave of relief. She had waited for this too!
As long as Sylvia successfully married Malcolm, her status as his stepdaughter would be legitimate.
June downed the glass of wine in one go. “Then I’ll congratulate you both on your marriage in advance!”
